Last post on this vehicle I believe.
Looking at purchasing a 1995 g30 hightop overcab with 176k km.
Vehicle was previously an Alberta government van before having the hightop installed and driven across Canada.

Van is in good cosmetic/mechanical shape with some rust on the right rockers but otherwise the frame is excellent which is rare in the east coast of canada with salted roads. It may need a water pump soonish and needs a small patch in the end of the exhaust but otherwise should pass inspection as everything else seems to be fine. Requires a small patch to the hightop however current temp fix does not leak

Seller was asking 2700 but talked down to 2000 Canadian. Hightop originally likely cost more than that...
Full set of studded tires and some extra summers that are in good shape

What are your thoughts?

I spent $1950 on my g30 No rust 106,000 miles 1 owner. I have about $5800 into it now, tires, shocks and transmission parts where the biggest expenses. That investment does not have any labor included as I did all the work myself. If I had to pay someone, it would be an even bigger money pit. By far the largest portions of cost are all the $20-75 dollar parts that seem to add up. I would not be afraid to buy a no rust van from a better area and drive it home or ship it. Your are going to have way more than $2000 into that once it's reliable and ready to take on the world, so you might as well start with a solid chassis.

The chassis is solid, the van is from an area with no salt (Alberta). The slight rocker rust is a small hole and the other side is fine. The van has only been in this province for 2 years and amassed 5000km since then
Biggest asset for me is the hightop as I need I van I can stand in.
Shipping a van would cost upwards of 4000$, flying up to buy one would cost over 1000 alone.

Dons service history will likely be indicative of what you can expect with "Great White," @ 176K miles.

Check Astro's latest water pump thread for what is recommended while you're in there to replace the water pump. Do it all. Be glad it's a 350. On the 454 you'd be adding a double roller timing set too.
But that's a chance I'm willing to take. Lol.
Go for it. Deal, IMO.

Baby that smallblock it may go another 100K. Plus it will be super easy to spot in a parking lot!

It's a big bird, but I like it! Every G30 owner I know likes their Van. You'll like yours too.

Pedal to the metal Visionist. Cheers!

It sounds like you have already made up your mind, and actually only wanted to hear thoughts that agreed with the conclusion you have already decided on? I had a race car shipped from Ontario to Oregon for $1500. What a rusty POS that was! Lesson learned. It was a rail company that did it. I remember that shipping inside canada was even cheaper. If you're happy with the van and don't want to look any more then I guess there is only one outcome.

Not so much really, just that shipping/travel isn't really an option. Buying a car from Ontario was kind of a bad idea honestly as that is one of the most heavily salted areas in Canada. This is Canada, not the us. I live on an island(Newfoundland) as far east in Canada as you can get, we have our own time zone. Shipping a car averages 3-4k period from quotes on our local car group on Facebook from users who have shipped in supras and other foreign vehicles from BC and Alberta.

As far as vehicles here go, its cheaper to look at vehicles that people have already driven from areas with no salt. Be it Alberta, Florida or BC, where this one is from ...

To the contrary I was honestly looking for opinions to deter me from purchasing the van, I just dont agree with the alternative points you made. Rust wasnt a concern on this one as it was one of the cleanest I've viewed yet. This isnt going to be a show vehicle, It would be seeing good use and likely winter driving where it will see salt anyways.
