So i ran out of gas the other day in my 76 g20. Put about 5 gal of gas in and nothing. tried spraying quick start into carb and nothing. now there is nothing when i turn the key. battery was just pulled off a tender and was above 90%, tried to start the van 3 times and now no power at all. Now im like WTF is going on? Put battery back on tender and it shows over 90% still so its not the battery. What else could have gone out? any ideas?

Fill the float bowl(s) on the carburetor with gas through the bowl vent tube and then try starting it.

If you run a carbureted fuel system dry and it has a mechanical fuel pump, it take a lot if cranking for tge mechanical pump to prime and then fill the float bowl on the carb.

I will give that a try. Only problem is now there is nothing when i turn the key. No power at all to the entire van. went from cranking to not doing anything at all. going to check fuses but after that im kind of stumped.

Make sure you have clean battery terminals and they are tight.

OK, so I am getting gas at the carburetor now but still no start. There is pressure in the fuel line when i disconnect the fuel filter that sits between the fuel pump and the carburetor. I can also see gas spraying in the carburetor when i pump gas pedal. Now I wondering what im missing? There were no issues prior to running out of gas.

Time to open up the carb. When a carb gets run completely dry, sediment that is normally suspended in the fuel in the float bowl can settle at the bottom or even get sucked into the internal passages of the carb and clog things up. I've had it happen to me before. You need to disassemble the carb and blow out all the passages with compressed air. Soak it in cleaner for a bit first, then rinse it, then blow out all the passages and reassemble with new gaskets.
