My brother found this old cassette deck at a garage sale and I'd love to add it to my G10. I am not sure where to start. Can I just splice the wiring into the car stereo harness? Here are some pics...I;d love to have this in my van because I have a cassette collection and what sounds better than tape!?

How would I go about wiring it ? I have a newer style deck in it already that I'd like to keep and use with the cassette deck.

If you are hell bent on getting it to work, there's a place in Redondo beach that restores units like this. They did a 8 track player for my Bonneville.

I should probably attend to other problems first....but gotta have tunes!

The reason for this is the cassette deck you have here uses a 'common ground' speaker output and any aftermarket deck made in the last 30 years or so will use separate wire pairs for each speaker.
In a common ground system the (-) speaker terminals would be connected together and then connected to the ground on the deck, and the amplifier would send an output signal on the two positive wires like is says on the back plate. In modern stereos the amplifier needs to have each set of speaker wires separate or you'll cause damage to the internal amplifier pretty quickly (and it sounds really terrible). The difference is that the old stereo would only modulate the (+) wire with the music and the (-) was a reference, whereas new amplifiers use a 'push/pull' configuration that modulates both wires to get much more output and efficiency.
Don't worry though! You can still make it work. The most simple way would be to dedicate a pair of speakers for your cassette, and another to your other stereo. Maybe a set of in dash speakers for one and door speakers for the other.
You'll want to keep in mind the warning on the back saying to use 8 ohm speakers only. Aftermarket speakers are going to be 4ohms, and that will cause damage to your cassette player. You have two options here; you can put 2 4-ohm speakers in series to create an 8 ohm load on the stereo, which would mean you have 4 speakers total - 2 left and 2 right, OR you can use speakers designed for home theater use since they are almost always 8 ohm.
Hope this answers your original question! 76 Tradesman 200
