There are 2 sizes of windows for GM vans. Smaller (for use in locking bead or chrome lock gasket) or larger style for (urethaned in) I want to know if a Pilkington DW 1162 will work with channel lock style gasket. Any help would be awesome!! It took about three trips to get us the right one. They finally sent an 'old guy' who knew which one to order.

Here is what I have learned: I have heard the part numbers are as follows if others need. Pilkington 925 (aka 1161) With Button for Mirror = Urethaned in. Pilkington 926 (aka 1162) Without Button for Mirror = Urethaned in. Pilkington 853 without button = Rubber beadlock style windshield.

Any issues? I hate this 2 piece, plastic, piece of s*** that's on my van. It looks like it's 40 years old and there's a gap in the middle. The windshield (and gasket) on my '94 was ordered for a '78 (IIRC). I got the glass without the mirror mount because I didn't want an inside mirror. Can't see out the back anyway. As MrCSM says, the gaskets were available with the chrome colored bead-lock but the black bead-lock is by far the most common. And a used gasket in good condition will usually seal as good as a new one.

I like the rubber gaskets better, but my old '70 Westfalia had the issue of letting water in at the top, but not letting it drain... so the windshield frame rusted. That doesn't seem to be an epidemic with our vans, so I may have to convert (my windshield is scratched anyway).
Thanks, Catfish. | | |
