Hey all.

Kinda new to the van stuff, but have always loved them since I was a kid watching them drive around the streets of Toronto in the mid 70's.

So, I recently picked up an '84 G1500. I wanna put 15x10 on the back and 15x7 on the front. I was wondering if I do that, what kinda trouble will I run into on the rear wheels? I read in another post if they stick out too far the sliding door might not open.

I can see I'm gonna have to lift the rear for clearance, thinking maybe 2 inches? Thoughts?

Thanks guys.

LOL

Well, I for one, didn't respond because my van has barn doors, so I can put 20" wide rear wheels on my van and the side doors will still open. LOL
But you're right. The slider might have clearance issues with a wide rear wheel and tire setup (I don't know at what point though).
The solution has been to get an extended arm kit (or whatever it is), but from what I've read, they're impossible to find, so people make their own.
I don't know how, or what the design requirements would be, as the only slider I've ever had was on a '70 Westfalia, and 5.5" wheels pose no threat to door clearance. smile

Several guys around here know all about this clearance issue and how to remedy it, and there may be some threads on it around here somewhere.

About the lifting of the rear of your van...
I don't know if it needs to be lifted for clearance, but it looks like it might need to be for stance. The front looks higher than the rear in the picture.

Hey yeah I was looking at it and I think I have about 2 1/2 inches of clearance there when the side door is open. I was thinking of 10 inch rims for the back so they should clear I think. As long as there is not a huge amount of negative offset.

What about the amount of lift? It actually does sit pretty level but the pic makes it look like it's squatting. Think 2 inches might do the trick with a lower profile tire.

Any input from someone who has done this?

If you put 10's on the rear without too much offset, use 50 series tires and you will not have to jack the ass up as much!

Yeah, that is what I was thinking too. And I did go back and look again when she was level and the back is squatting just a bit.
