My 1985 G20 Chevy Van's fuel line going into the top of the fuel tank is very, rusty. This fuel line is only, visible for an inch or so before it it is out of sight above the fuel tank. I have had no luck searching on the web to find any info on how to lower or remove the tank to replace this section of fuel line. I was hoping someone here might have a bit of experience with a similar situation and be able to give me a little insight.

I'll be doing a similar job on my 1985 G20 soon just to freshen everything up, Haven't done anything yet, but I believe that you just need to support the tank (a transmission jack seems to be the preferred tool). Then remove the straps and lower the tank enough to be able to undo the hoses/pipes/wires. Once those are undone, the tank can be removed completely.

The only thing that I am not sure about is whether or not a trailer hitch would get in the way. I've looked at mine and it doesn't seem like it would, but others have mentioned it does.

Tuner4Life, thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. That is what I thought might, be the way it could be accomplished. I have a half of a tank of fuel to burn off and then, I think I just, might, consider attempting the project.

I guess that I should . . . Introduce Myself. ... I think I will post a few more pics of "Flicka", my '85 G20 Chevy van that I have had since ... Oh, man, it has been so, long that I can't recall right, now; I'll have to look that up and include that when I introduce 'ourselves'.

MickeyG,

On the fuel line issue; typing, "Fuel tank drop," into the site search on here will yield you many pages of info from the Vanner's on here on the subject.

From a gladly retired BAC member,
Good Hunting and hope any repairs go smoothly.
Cheers!
