We've looked into van living. Had some friends try it. A few people who try it last a little while but most hang it up after six months or so. After the excitement of outfitting the van and the first trip or two they either run outta money, their support system that allows them to not work regular dries up, or they just get lonesome for somebody/something familiar.
Most of the ones who really live in their vans for years camp/live like snowbirds and even work part-time. If you check out Amazon seasonal workers you'll find a bunch of full-timers and van-lifers before the holidays. Amazon employs them by the hundreds for the season. Most are retired pensioners looking for extra travelling money.
We've had some real full-timers here, nikothenomad is one. Check out their posts and blog. They lived in the van for about 4 or 5 years, lived in like 40something states, but are currently settled into a condo in Florida.
I wish she'd write a book as they had some real adventures.

I couldn't do it. I coudl live out of a van for an extended vacation, like a long road trip for maybe a few months, but I must have a true home to come back to. Plus I couldn't fit all my tools in my van and still have room to sleep.

The dreaded "you can't sleep here" sign........

It would be very enjoyable if it can take advantage to gain income.

Clandestine and me and my Vans don't quite mesh.

I did live in the Cabin Cruiser for 6 months initially moving here. It is a lot of work.
It is nice to be able to load up a Van, and go though.
Most people just don't know
