There's a gap in the splines of the wheel that should match a gap in the splines on the shaft.
I'm beginning to worry the wheel was forced onto the shaft out of place.
That would explain why it won't come off. eek
If that's true, it's gonna be a booger to get loose.... cry

Hmmmm.. sounds like i have my work cut out for me..Or maybe i just pull the entire column and replace it with a used one from the junk yard... I think there is one on ebay right now that might fit. its from a 75-76 g10 non tilt OEM,,

Well when you go to pull the column, disconnect the rag joint 1st, turn the steering wheel to where you want it & see if the joint lines back up. If so put the bolt back in it & go for a ride.

it will not line up. there is one flat spot on the shaft that comes from the steering box and only one way it will go on the rag joint from what i can tell. i already gave that a shot. the rag joint will not fit all the way on the shaft. im sure i could make it fit if i really wanted to but i would rather have it fixed correctly.

Did you see that line on the shaft? And if you have the factory wheel I think it has a dot on the top but that's irrelevant because you can see the wheel centered. Consider getting that puller back on there with all that force on it and wack the top with a hammer. Sometimes a little joult is all it needs.

unfortunately the top of the shaft was somewhat smashed from someone not leaving the nut at the top of the threads before hitting it with a hammer or using a puller. will try pulling the wheel off again today using the puller and hammer method.

so the wheel came off and it was as easy as just putting it back on straight. Thank you for all the help and info. Happy it was so simple after all the struggle.
