| | | Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 | I have a clean slate, bare naked interior of my van. I will be added walls and some bells and whistles over time. I'm wondering if i should even bother with insulation at all.
1) I don't foresee any winter camping so no need to retain heat on super cold nights. All my camping is summer time. 2) I will probably do some form of sound deadening. These walls get loud on the highway. 3) All the stuff i've read with insulation and moisture and rot seems like such a pain in the ass.
Thanks for the input! | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 | | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 Maniac | Maniac Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 | Yes, you should be concerned with and use heat and noise insulation on the walls. You might try looking at one of the new paint-on heat and noise reducers such as Al's Heat and Noise Reducer. Very reasonably priced, paints right on, no concerns about moisture retention or rust-out. You can also browse numerous threads on this site discussing acoustic damping and thermal barriers.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning! | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 journeyman | OP journeyman Joined: Jul 2015 Posts: 89 | That's the problem, I've read all the posts here and everyone has a different, difficult answer lol sound deadening for sure. Just insulation seems overkill hmmmm | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 3,692 Likes: 32 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Nov 2013 Posts: 3,692 Likes: 32 | If you've got a clean slate to start with, now is the time to do it. Even if you don't see yourself camping in cooler weather, I'd still build it as if you were. | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 205 enthusiast | enthusiast Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 205 | I just Insulated my walls with Roxul Rockwool insulation, it helps keep your vehicle cool too, plu it also does great as a sound deadener. Plus it is FIRE PROOF up to (2150°F). For even more sound deadening I would recommend Noico 80mil http://a.co/1I9NB9n
Take Care, Kevin

Tucson-it's a dry heat...like an oven

A PO of my van insulated it and it stays relatively cool in the summer and is pretty quiet too. | | | Re: Should I bother with wall insulation? | Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 37 newbie | newbie Joined: Jul 2008 Posts: 37 | Just keep moisture in mind. The wrong insulating material will trap moisture and rust your van away from the inside, out. | | |
