I've only ever had a few 350's apart, but I have never seen or heard about these things. They are metal tubes that are attached to the inside of the manifold and poke into the exhaust port.

Sorry. I would try to upload a picture but I can't figure out how to do it from my phone without hosting the picture first.

The only tubes I know of that go into any exhaust are either EGR or Air Tubes to help with cleaner emissions. GM liked to pump air into the exhaust to lessen the unburned HC. Chrysler and Ford loved EGR. Although GM uses EGR too.

Chrysler and Ford also used air injection. Depending on the year and emissions package, all manufacturers use air injection to help the catalytic converter fully burn the exhaust gasses by injecting air into the cylinder head(s) downstream of the exhaust port, into the exhaust manifold(s), into the exhaust pipe, and into the catalytic converter itself.

I suspect multiple tubes going into the exhaust manifold ar air injection tubes. Really, air injection is a good thing that does not harm performance in any way and really helps cleanup the exhaust.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

Ahh yes. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. This van must have reminants of that AIR injection system.

Being from the Midwest, I had never run across a western vehicle with all of the valves and hoses going in every direction.

Thanks guys.

I cured this nonsense on my 1985 305. The holes in the manifolds plugged with pipe plugs.
