Maybe something for you TBI owners to check next time you have the dog house off, I had noticed on the EGR solenoid there was an open port, found out the tiny filter had just worn away. I read that without it the solenoid can get clogged with dirt and cause problems. Jegs got me a new AC Delco one for 99 cents and I glued it on. (P/N 219-13)

Great tip Gladiator, thanks! These solenoids are way too expensive to allow to fail over such an amazingly inexpensive fix.

This EGR solenoid filter also applies to carbureted Dodges. Not knowing the filters were still commercially available, I made my own filter out of lawn mower air filter green foam, figuring if it could survive long term oil saturation, it should survive in EGR duty. So far so good, at about 8 years and counting.

Did not even know there was supposed to be a filter. I had EGR problems in 2002 and later on the solenoid went out too.

I'd love to see a picture of this... There's a small vacuum hose coming up on the front side of my airfilter that's not connecting to anything, maybe that's part of the egr filter?

Either way, sounds like a reasonable fix. Might help my 13mpg...
