I took measurements of my tank and found them to be the same as a 1975 tank. Unless the filler neck is in a different location, I don't see why it wouldn't work.
*EDIT*** I made a 1975 tank work with very little effort. Just grab a 90 degree pipe from a speed shop or muffler shop and some flex fuel hose. It will mount in with the second gen straps, just bend the straps to make them fit the new tank. I also had to make some longer J bolts from a U bolt.
