I'm the new owner of a 1987 Chevy G20 Sportsmobile. It's not perfect and needs a few fixes so I'm here looking for people knowledgeable about this generation of G-vans.
I look forward to chatting with folks here, and using my new van for boondocking, vandwelling, and some work here and there. | | | Re: New User/Looking for Resources | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | Joined: Jun 2010 Posts: 18,286 Likes: 558 | Welcome to the site gmcsmb

I would contact Sportsmobile to see if it was some thing they installed aftermarket.

I'm not familiar with the "Sportsmobile". Is that a factory trim level, a type of conversion, or??? | | | Re: New User/Looking for Resources | Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 14 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Sep 2016 Posts: 14 | Hi Dave, Sportsmobile is a company that among other things, installs a pop-up roof conversion. With the top up, I have about 7' of standing height and there is a bed up there also. With the top down, only about 5" is added to the roof height so the aerodynamics and mpg are still good. It's also handy for "stealth camping" in urban areas as it looks like a normal van with the top down. Here is a pic of mine. Obviously a paint job is on the todo list at some point =) | | |
