LS series or other? | Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 95 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Jun 2013 Posts: 95 | I've got a 1980 chevy and looking at doing an engine swap. I've read that prior to 83, the engine bay and doghouse are tighter than 83 up. I'm thinking an lt1 might be an easier swap than an LS series engine due to intake clearance to the doghouse. Which is too bad because i've got a 6.0 LQ4 that needs a home. I thought there would have been a lot more posts on projects like this. Shouldn't have painted the van either.

Does anyone have information on putting a 6.0L V8 Vortec in a 1972 Chevy G30? Thanks!

I've been building hot rods for over 20 years and laid out a ton of very carefully planned parts, and spares. Drove the van into the garage last Fri night with the 305, drove out late sunday with the 6.0L lq4 powering it with efi. Had the luxury of two of my best mechanic friends helping me as this is a ton of work to take on for one weekend.
The same night, my wife went into labor, but when I get some time, i'll post up a build thread of what it took to make it all happen.

Shouldn't have painted the van either. I agree that they could have made more power with better exhaust (I'd have run dual 3" exhaust and fabbed up a functional cold air intake.) Cold air makes a big difference - on a hot day (90+ ambient) I had the van at the dyno shop and made 290 RWHP, when I returned on a cold morning (61 degree ambient) it made upwards of 350 to the wheels. Performance engines like cooler air. | | |
