my 96 Astro Van has developed a problem a lot of vehicles in this age group in the rust belt has.
The steel brake line running from the master cylinder to the equalizing valve, under the drivers side of the van are leaking, due to rust issues.
On this model van there are two different size brake lines.
the front /primary lines have a 3/16 I.D.
the rear line/secondary is smaller at 7/64 I.D.
These lines very well could be metric. How ever I have no way if determining the tubings I.D.size in metric.
I have been able to locate the needed 3/16 line.
Locating the 7/64 line has not been so easy.
NO BODY locally or even on line carry this size brake line.

With no brakes this van is down for the count.......

Usually you just take your old end fittings to the parts store and they get you new lines with the proper fittings. I think lines are measured as outside diameter. You can check this on the 3/16 lines. Metric lines are definitely possible on a 1996. I replaced some on a 1993 grand am that were metric in rear. I put a little anti seize on end fitting threads so that it will be easier to get apart next time. Spraying underneath with used motor oil on winter driven vehicles increases brake line life significantly.

the fitting ends are metric the rear line size is 1/4inch od i had to replace all underneath lines on my 2000 awd due to rust just take the old line to the parts store and they will match it up with correct ends and od but they only have set lengths you bend to fit hope this helps

For what ever reason they ID brake line in O.D. sizes.

I soaked the fittings down with some trusty Liquid Wrench and I was able to get every thing loos
I will clean up and reuse the fittings.
I invested in a good brake line flaring tool a few years back. When I had to do brake line work on another one of my rides.

I messed my self up by measuring this line incorrectly.

Thanks for the help.

time to do some fab work
