Can i pull a number off the block to have them match up the computer or something? | | | Re: Help with my G20! The LMC truck website has a van section with a vin decoder to tell you some interesting info on your van.
Also If you open your doghouse glove box there are about 100 three letter alphanumeric codes that tell you everything in your van (if its the Original doghouse to the van) again verify it against your vin. Search chevy RPO decoder on line and enter in your data. Youll get a list of pretty much everything your van was built with including engine trans and rear end.
If you have a 350, and it says you had say a 4.3 v6 of 305, you may be able to sort out your computer issues. These computers are cheap if you have a junkyard with vans in it and know what to look for, if it is a computer issue. Your on the right track. As for removing the O2 sensor, heating the exhaust with a torch or trying right after driving so the exhaust hot would have probably did the trick. Just got to be careful not to get burned. Good Luck

Got all new gaskets orings and seals. Had the TB itself untrasonic cleaned, and injectors flow balanced etc. Also got a new TPS sensor.
Put all of it back in started it and it ran like total crap. Wouldnt hold and idle. I had to hold my foot on the gas to keep it running.
Let it sit overnight started it again. Still had to keep my foot on the gas to keep it running really rough. After a few mins it smoothed out and would idle, but everytime i revved it, it would die.
Started it the next day. Now it would idle on start up... would rev up ok, but still with a dead spot. I took it around the block and it ran good up until, i think, it got to operating temp. Then it started running the same as the first time i started it, and i had to limp it home.
Started the van last night... Idled good... let it run for a few minutes and put it in drive. This time it seemed really good. In drive i pulled it back and forth a bit in the driveway and the gas pedal felt good. Didnt get it up to operating temp this time.
How long does it take the computer to 'relearn'? It seems like its running better and better. I still have to take it out and drive it again to get it up to op temp.
Just wanted to put an update here. Seems like rebuilding the TB and new tps helped... Ill report back when i get it on the highway for a bit... | | | Re: Help with my G20! Start the engine and set your idle speed using the torx screw in front of your throttle linkage. the screw may have a cap over it that can be drilled or pry'd off. Then usually have to drive over 50 mph for the computer to start learning and adjusting. Hope this helps

Runs like crap cold... it seems to hold a decent idle when starting cold now. But when you rev it a little cold i puffs out black smoke. Then when in gear it will chug and buck until you put the pedal past like 1/3 or so, after that it seems to run and pull pretty normal.
I am gonna have a look at the plugs and do a compression check.
I will look into setting the base idle. My idle speed seems fine though. If my idle speed seems fine should i mess with the base idle at all? I mean is there a benefit other than idle speed? | | | Re: Help with my G20! My red 93 had the same symptoms & it turned out to be the old style pancake muffler.
