My friend had a wireless in his van. Every store he passed that had wireless security cameras, their video would show on his dash. It was annoying. The regular signal would cut in and out all the time. I installed a wired camera in place of my rearview mirror. I mounted it just under the rear windows in my rear gullwing. The only issue I had with it is when I was driving east in the late afternoon, my camera would be blinded. I was going to move it up to the roof and aim it down to eliminate that issue, but I haven't done that yet.

Never trust anything without wires. My son installs electronics, that includes speakers in home.

I installed a backup camera, and a secondary screen/blindspot camera on Vanther.

The main backup cam is hard wired and just mounted in my upper third brake light. Then just wired in the cab to a 12v positive ignition wire into the head unit that has a display built in.

But you can buy on eBay cheap TFT LCD monitors on eBay for like 35 bucks and add a specific camera that way. Check out some of my pics I think I talk about it on my thread for my stereo install:

I have the hardwired flavor. It's on the roof and I have the monitor mounted to the console. No issues whatsoever. I use it in place of my rear view mirror and keep the rear shade closed. No bubbles no troubles.

Check out rearviewsafety.com they have complete kits or you can build your own system.

I have two hard wired, one in the rear bumper for backing up, and one on the roof instead of a rear view mirror since my windows are blacked out.

if you are attending the Nationals Custom Van has one that has no wiring and use you your phone for display. it has magnets on it and can be placed anywhere on your van. I am going to get one of these when i get to Nationals.

OP: what did you end up doing? I'd like a wireless but I've read on different pickup truck forums that the signal is often too weak with big vehicles with the license frame type (I know you can get a more industrial version with a camera on the roof, but I'd rather something more incognito).

Kevin: do you know what brand you have? I'd like a set up, wired or wireless, where you can leave it on all the time. I think it'd be useful to be able to see behind me constantly, as I have louvres on the rear windows. Not sure all versions allow you to keep it on without actually being in reverse.

If anyone else leaves their backup camera on all the time, let me know what type you're using. Thanks in advance.

Don't hook to your backup lights. Hook it to a hot wire and switch. What I did.

And this is the Wireless thing we use to have but I have everything hard wired and have the video cables piggy backed so I can see the cameras when we are in the back as well
