You may also take this part number to O'Reilly's and see if they can supply a radiator to these specs. (click the 'info' link on the Vista-Pro for specs. O'Reilly's is generally cheaper than Rock Auto on radiators.

I am slowly building up my pile of parts and to do list. I actually ran into a guy with a van like mine minues the conversion and he was towing a 36 foot travek trailer w 3 slides. It was nice but a lot bigger and heavier than what my little 25 foot coachmen.
He kept telling me how good Tekonosha's P3 brake controller was, so I am thinking about upgrading. Safety always comes first when you have kids with you. Maybe in a month or so when I get everything I will be able to post a pic of the old van with my trailer. It isn't pretty but it sure fits my needs just perfect. Trip to lowes come home and don't have to unload right away. That is great. My dog also loves it. Those were my 2 original reasons for getting a van. My dog is too stupid not to jump out of a truck bed.
Thanks again t everyone. | | | Re: 87 GMC Vandura 2500 Cnversion Towing capabilities | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 | this is exactly what i'm doing to mine & for the same reason . tranny was already done , suspension & steering has been redone , new HD springs in the front , 2 leafs added to the back , new shocks , all new bushings , brakes drums & rotors all done , a couple rusty lines replaced too , along with the rubber lines to the calipers , new bearings up front & brake componants on the back including wheel cylinders , radiator (stock but new ) tranny cooler & all new hoses & thermostat . belts idler pulleys & serp replaced . next is the rear rebuilt with 3.73 gears & an Eaton locker ..... then in the spring i'm blowin my wad on a crate motor .
yup , i'm going to the extremes with this one , but other than maintenance ..... i'll never have to do it again & i'll have a nice rig that could pull a camper anywhere !!!

It's the 350, 4L60E and 3.42 rear. The camper we pull is small (Fun Finder T139FK) at about 2000# and with the usual gear we have an additional 500# or so to that. It's not the weight that matters, it's the huge wind sail that the front of the camper has. At interstate speeds of 65 or so we only get about 8 to 8.5 MPG. We are in the Smokeys with it a lot so it's about the same pulling hills. We usually slow down, run the back roads and get double digit MPG. With the factory towing package the van don't care what you put behind it. BTW, we use an 8" extension on the receiver so we can leave the spare on the door without worrying about the trailer jack crunching it. | | | Re: 87 GMC Vandura 2500 Cnversion Towing capabilities | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 | BTW, we use an 8" extension on the receiver so we can leave the spare on the door without worrying about the trailer jack crunching it. blush

You should start a build thread and post lots of pics. A shot of our rig with the Chevy. We go everywhere with this little dude between truck-ins. But the GMC is still our first choice. | | | Re: 87 GMC Vandura 2500 Cnversion Towing capabilities | Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 journeyman | journeyman Joined: Jun 2005 Posts: 98 | wow i love the colors on that chevy !!!
