the overhead console is 99% done. Just a couple tiny pinholes and screw heads that I need to smooth over. I'm happy with how it's turned out. I am going to wait to vinyl wrap it until after the windshield is installed that way I know if I need to trim any more off the front edge or not. I also need to cut the hole to mount the switch panel above the CB radio. I'm going to be using Carling blue LED switches with custom rocker covers from rockerswitchpros.com. Should be neat.
Also cut the glove box door. Still working on a hinge and latch solution for that.
I've also been planning out the routing of the wire harnesses for all of the stuff I'm adding. For being such a large open vehicle, there is limited space to run wires especially between the engine bay and cabin, as well as between the dash and ceiling. I have a set of A-pillar cover trims from a Bellevue which are nice and cover the ends of the dashboard, as well as have a space behind them that can be used for hiding wires along the pillar. I did need to drill some holes in the ends of the metal dash support for the wires to pass through into the pillars. I drilled 3/4" holes which I should easily be able to find grommets for so the wires don't chafe. I was able to fit 3 holes on the driver's side and 2 on the passenger side. They will be nicely hidden by the pillar cover trims.
Later in the weekend, it was disgustingly cold and I didn't feel like walking outside to the shop, so I stayed inside and worked on the headlight bezels. I've had them for a while, and finally got around to de-painting them. These are aftermarket bezels from ebay that I got for around $65. They are chrome plated plastic, but the majority of the part is painted silver to match the factory look. However, under the silver paint they are fully chrome plated. I used 100% acetone nail polish remover and paper towels to remove the silver paint and underlying residue. Then I finished cleaning them up with Windex and some old t-shirt rags. They turned out amazing for the small time investment in them.
Right is before, Left is after:
And both completed:
This week will consist of vinyl wrapping more pillar and window trims, POR-15 application in a few spots under the cowl and in the engine bay that I forgot about previously. Also going to start looking at how I want to modify the dash and center console if at all..
