So i'm getting ready to replace shocks and ball joints on my '73 B100. I've got a buddy who's going to help me out. He's got a spring compressor and ball joint press and has some experience doing it. Working on a budget… anybody have recommendations on reasonably priced parts? Any tips?

Main reason I'm doing it is I was told they needed replacing when I had the front end looked at last year and there's an unhealthy clunk coming form the passengers side… but it's riding relatively smooth (not shaking the van apart yet)… just took it on a 180 mile trip at about 60mph. Planning to take a road trip to VanFest in Canada and want a safer / smoother ride. Any tips, info, part recommendations, thoughts is greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance. I'm always greatful for the info on this site!

Nope - didn't replace tie rods - thinking about getting those too… i know there's a little play when you grab the wheel on the passenger side.

Hi there, I just replaced my 96 E-150 ball joints. Got Moog ball joints from Rock Auto.com and spent less for them than my local disc. STORE. You know the cheep china stuff. Good luck, Cloudy.

Cool. Yeah, I've always heard good things about MOOG joints. Probably go for it and get em. It was weird though - yesterday when I was pricing out parts, I couldn't find either an uppper or lower ball joint manufactured by MOOG (forget which one… I think upper). But I did find lower and tie rods (inner & outer) from them.

They are not press in. They thread in and use a specialty socket that is square (2 different sizes for Mopar, make sure you get right one).
They require using cutting oil as they are threaded in so they cut the threads as they go. Otherwise, no guarantee that they will stay in. I'm putting my new Moog ball joints in this weekend wit fresh Monroe shocks and a couple of trick I haven't played yet...

How do you know it won't work? Have you tried it, yet??
