So I'm going to snag the grille and emblems for $40. What else should I get? Since I don't yet have a doggon van, I guess this makes it EXTRA hard to determine, I know. Here's my plan.

I want to end up with a 3rd Gen Chevy swb van. I prefer 1971-1977, but may settle for 1978+ if I come across the right deal when the time is right. I know the GEN3 vans are "mostly" the same from 1971-1996, BUT if I were to end up with say an 85, and wanted to swap to the pre 77 grille, do I need the entire front clip (radiator support, fenders, bumper, etc) to make the grille match up, or will that grille match up easily to the later model sheet metal?

Second part of the question is just what else should I be on the lookout for when yanking parts from this van? It's 2.5 hours away so I will need to pull it all in one day. Should I even bother with the seats? Trim? Lenses? Interior doodads? Take a look at the pics and let me know what you think. I'm trying to plan this pick a van trip thoroughly, though I know it never goes how you plan, at least I'll have a starting point for the day.

So you don't have a van? That makes it tuff.If it were me I would take the rear doors, slider door ,bumpers, grille all emblems, side markers, interior door panels and that would be making sure that the doors were not full of rust either.
You should grab those tailight trim pieces too. yay

I love those front bumper gaurds ,I have never seen them before.

The fenders are spot welded on so it makes it a big job and time consuming also to remove them.

Make sure you get the bumpers they are getting hard to find also!

Good luck and let's hope you get a van to use all the parts on!!

I second the taillight chrome trim. The trailer hitch would alaways come in handy, even if slight modification is needed. Good Luck......

Strip it down to the bare skin of ALL parts, what you dont use put in the "For sale" section and the rest WILL go away.....

A Nomad package is one of the most sought after parts package.

All door handles, radio, dash, interior lights, the vent visors, pop out windows & all hardware from the slider & rear

IF ITS NOT WELDED ON GRAB IT !!!

I'll be hauling all this back in a 2007 Toyota Sienna Van, so I'm a little limited on space smile

I've been oogling those tail lights too.

I like them too, but I normally prefer them without the guards. Wonder how rough they'll be underneath them.

Thanks for the heads up. Might be taking a good drill and bits, but not sure if I want to fool with those then.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll be making as much room in the Sienna as I can to haul stuff back. Might need to embezzle a little more cash from Momma's stash before hand as well. Shhhh, what she don't know won't hurt her... it may come back to hurt me though when I get her help unloading it all. LOL!

Sell the seats out of the Sienna and that will give you some cash AND free up some space! lol

Also,I don't think you need the fenders for the conversion to '71-'77 stle grille,if you check the thread I started on shorty vans "keech" did a grille swap on his later syle van. smile

Tell her that she WILL GET IT ALL BACK !
If you grab ALL of the NOMAD TRIM PAK.

You wont have a problem selling the left overs. Take a big box for the roof rack on the Sennia to fill with small things or moving blankets so you can strap the doors to the roof. Un clip all the bench & bucket seats except the ft 2.

When you pull the grill. make sure you pull all the headlight hardware. then that way if you decide to transplant into a later year van it is a lot easier. Otherwise you will be looking for that hardware.

You can take that 77' grill and hardware and transplant it up to a 96'

Don't bother with the fenders, I've removed them before and it takes too long. Get as many large bits as you can and remove the smaller trim bits off when you're home. I removed those fendergaurds (over-riders) from mine and the bumpers were OK underneath.

Awesome. Thanks for all the input guys. Can't wait til I get a chance to go parts yankin. Right now though, with it being in the single digits outside, I'm keeping my happy rear end inside.

Take the tilt wheel and the A/C dash also. I would try to get this entire van home if you can, these nomads are LOADED with options and finish trim......as much as you could get in 77 LOL Any chance it has the in dash DELCO AM/FM/CB radio? I could use one of those for my nomad.

Not sure if it has the radio or not, but I'll check for you. Wasn't able to go this week due to some medical issues. Hopefully get down there soon.

Instead of traveling to the van, have the van towed to you. AAA towing membership will tow up to 100 miles for free. With the price of fuel and your time it seems more advantageous to have the van close by to pull as many parts at your leisure.

Can't do that either. Live in the city and constantly getting hassled by the cops about anything that sits for more than 14 days. 1971 Chevy pickup that had a flat tire for a week, 1957 VW with no city sticker (which isn't even required on antique vehicles), 1972 Chevelle that sat in my shed, etc etc etc.

Not even sure if I'm going to make it down to pull the parts now as I'm dealing with some medical issues at the moment which are taking all my money and not able to travel. Hopefully I can get back on my feet in time to snatch this stuff.

Sorry to hear but health comes first and van parts run a close second behind so take care of yourself, these parts will always be somewhere.

Staunton.

Still no resolution to health issues. Digestive disorder of some sort. Lots of lab work, CT scan, and an upper endoscopy. Did find Hiatal Hernia. Still working on it.

Well I found out my digestive system issues were Coeliac Disease. Been trying to contact this guy for a couple weeks to set up a time to go pull stuff. Their phone was disconnected.

So I finally get ahold of them today. They crushed the van. What a bunch if idiot twat waffles! GRRRR!

Yes. I have to eat gluten free now. It's hard getting used to and somewhat expensive, but I'll get it figured out. Thanks.

Thanks bud, and yes, I was SUPER bummed and angry when I found out they had crushed it. I had left several messages over a couple week period, but never got a return call. When I finally got in touch with them it was too late.
