Easy work!! I've replaced mine once but had to drop the tank 3 other times, because I'm an idiot, and didn't put a hose clamp on in the first place so the pump fell off of the sending unit all 3 times. BUT in my defense 2 outta 3 times I was on the side of the highway without hose clamps.

Anyways, detach both filler neck hoses, undo fuel lines at filter (sometimes makes work easier). Undo 2 bolts holding the tank straps, tank will practically fall out, have a jack ready. Large flat head screw driver to undo the screw for the sending unit to the tank, or large channel locks. Disconnect wiring if so desired, or continue to work while under the van. Pull out sending unit, and replace pump. Pretty simple once you've done it a few times...

Good luck!!

Gone vannin' I'll call you later.

In a roadside repair a small piece of wire canjghjk be twisted around the fuel hose to act as a clamp. A zip tie can sometimes be tightened enough to help.

Also, wouldn't recommend this to everyone, but you can always cut a hole in the floor to get at the sender. They really should have made an access panel for this as they do in some cars, so you don't have to drop the tank.

I think the fuel sending unit access panel is a great idea. Anyone have dimensions of hole or good ideas on how to nicely finish this project? I have had my tank out more times than I would like already.

I saw one vanner used a flat cover off an old electrical panel screwed into the floor after he cut a hole. It was 9 x 12 or so. It needs to be big enough to get your hands through and use tools....

Electrical access panel is a great idea. It opens with a screwdriver or a nickel. The come in 8" and up squares. Home Depot, Lowe's and others sell them.

How long do those pumps usually last? I got 144000 on my 90 Chev and I think about just putting one in so I don't have to do it on the road. Be a lot easier and cheaper to do it my self at home.
