Yesterday I almost took out the office porch and today I had to throw the van in park to stop it. They do not plow well here in the campground and there is ice under the inch or so of snow left. If there is any hill involved my van will not stop. The brakes lock and I start skidding. My tires are almost new so that's not the issue. I have a 1986 Ford Econoline cargo van so my guess is I don't have ABS. Would sandbags in the rear help?

The only Stephentown on earth. I don't mind Coming to work, but that 8hr wait to go home is a bitch. No matter how little I do, I always feel I could do less. "The only thing wrong with a perfect drive to work is that you end up at work." NOVA VANS 1990 Dodge B150

As far as ABS goes I have rarely had it kick in but when it has I about jumped out of my skin. I use very light brake pressure and kind of pump the brakes verses just applying even pressure like normal.
Although being from Alabama I still charge more when my clients make me drive in the snow and ice.

If it is the rears check your wheel cylinders and make sure they are not leaking. Even a little drip will make them grab if there is no ground friction and they will grab on pavement and lock up if it is more. Member Shenandoah Valley Vans Van = Party. The 1st time mine grabbed in the '93 I was offroading, slid right over a sage oak tree, well now its a bush, got out shook the turd out of my pant leg. I too have been doing the soft pump driving. I think this is the best method of driving a ABS veh. Takes some getting used to but what a nice ride.
