im posting here bc i cant get the how to section to work...anyhow...
my current muffler is rotting out and im thinking of adding a custom exhaust with a performance muffler and larger diameter pipes, exiting before the back wheels. i was thinking of just getting it all done at midas, get a performance muffler through them and get them to custom mandrel bend some pipes and hang them, so its got a warranty and all. does this seem like a decent idea? the only think im kindof worried about is the expenses, but my dad has gone there for years and usually can get a pretty good deal.

A guy I work with did this on a 91, but had the duals go out the back under the bumper. I don't know what he paid, but it does work and he kept the catalytic convertor so there is no legal issues. Unless you have the bending equipment and tools, your best bet is to have it done.

Although I see nothing wrong with taking your rig into a shop like Midas, if it's immoble, check this out:

There was an article awhile back in one of the classic truck mags on a build up that RB's Obsolete Automotive did.

They had a kit where they had a flexible tube, and shaped it where they wanted it, filled it with foam to make it rigid, and sent it to Stainless Works to have them turn it into an exhaust for them... it's called Fit Kit Plus.

yeah i saw a special on hot rod tv and they were making a custom dual exhaust w/ performance mufflers for a 69 camaro. they took the car to midas to get the pipes made and mounted. if they can do custom exhaust to a camaro, they can do it to a van. i bet its even easier to do on the van [Linked Image]
