I'm thinking that it might be a good route to get something on the floor quickly and easily that will offer some solid protection.

What's the worst that can happen?

With any luck, it'll be sitting in the garage when I get home next week.
(BTW, how do I edit old posts?)
Next up - getting a receiver hitch installed...

What kind of dickhead does that?)
After a few shipping SNAFU's the carpet came in yesterday evening. It took about 45 minutes from the UPS drop off to standing in the driveway admiring the newly installed carpet.
Overall, it's a great set up.
For $205 (shipping and tax included) I got a chemical / stain resistant carpet with heavy molded insulation that looks OK. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, cheap, easy carpet solution.
The fit is excellent - I had to trim a very little amount for the tire jack in the right rear corner but that's nothing.
The final finish is nice... but not great. The loose edges on the sides of the van don't bother me much and there isn't really a good way to fix that easily. Besides, once the wall dressing goes in, they'll be hidden quite well.
What I really don't care for is the unfinished edge behind the front seats. I'll have to come up with some semi-permanent floor sill to cover the seam. Again, not a real problem, just a little thing to bitch about.
I should have gotten some of that reflective bubblecrap insulation to lay underneath and I may still do it just to help out.
I have a tailgate this weekend and I'll have a better opinion of the fit / finish / sound insulation / feel on Monday.
