I see, that would make much sense. Hey didn't FL get rid of inspection? Because I live in FL and have my van registered and I never heard of any inspection. Now back when I lived in NJ they had inspection left and right.

189.9K on a 94, gives me the extra confidence that my van will make it. I know it will, when I replaced rear main seal the main bearing was in excellent condition. I am just nervous it will break down after a horrific break down my van endured.

I'm on my 3rd transmission though. Original trans lasted 163,000 miles before it went out so then I took to a shop I thought I trusted to be rebuilt. Turns out they sent it out to "a guy they've been doing business with for years" and I only got a 90-day warranty. Well it lasted only about 2 years before it blew up on the way home from a van run back last Sept, only about 20,000 miles later. The trans that's in it now is a whole new unit and I got a 3-year/100,000 mile warranty. No problems so far.

Yea alot of horrible transmission builders out there, many times they go correct an defect but don't make the required adjustments to the valve body in order to avoid damage. Another problem is when transmission builds rebuild a transmission and replace the bushings so many times they press the bushing in too far and end up covering a lube feed hole, the OEM bushings are different length then some of the replacement bushings so it ends up throwing off many builders. And many times builders do not rebuild the valve body properly or don't rebuild it at all. Builders also don't check the pressure relief valves that are in each piston or retainer so many times the little valve gets stuck then the transmission goes to shift into the next gear and you bind up the transmission and KA-BOOM.
On your second transmission you say which blew up, did it literally blow up into pieces or what damage occured? 20K miles sounds like someone didn't put the proper snap rings in there place and one failed.

My 77 Dodge has 140,000 with 10K on the rebuilt 318.

My 87 Ford 4x4 has around 170,000 but the is and has been kinda funky (says the PO) But I just rebuilt next to everything mechanical in it so its rolling down the road like a newer rig.
