i know that each style of van has it's good points and it's bad points. what year do you believe was the best year for a chevy van? i have concidered buying a newer van, but when i drive them i just don't like them. i feel that the 68-69 chevy vans are one of the best, what about you, i know there is no a/c, no power steering, but the ride is definitly unique. i drive my wife's astro it rides nice and all but i prefer my early. i figure that everyone has a favorite for some reason or another. what is it? and why?

I have an early Chevy too, It's cool to see the public gawking at it. Can't wait to get it on the road again. I also have two Dodges, an 83 and an 86. They have A/C and the other nice stuff. I have an 87 Chevy too, it has a slider door that works right.
The earlies are attention getters, even if beat up and rusty, but a bit fatigue inducing on a long trip. The 80's vans are comfy, but unless they are muraled or heavily customized, tend to blend in in the mall parking lot. It's tough to choose, but at least they are all vans!

i have noticed that just about all the people who drive vans look at the other vans they see. when i drive my wife's 87 astro the other van drivers check it out, but when i drive my early people in cars, and trucks check it out, along with those in the vans, i agree that the early vans are the best for attention from the public. i had one guy tell me that he remembers when he used to party in this old chevy van and as he told the story and looking at my van he realized that he was talking about the same van he was looking at. that is how i learned all about the abuse that it has lived through, and i believe him because later that same year i went to the guy's house where i bought the van from and the second owner was there, when i pulled in in the van his eyes got about as big as his smile, and we discussed what he remembered about the van, just kind of neat how things go full circle.

i've had three early chevys and loved them .i now have an 88 conversion, but my personal favorites are late 70's chevys.i've had a 75,76,77,and still have a 79.they're as simple mechanically as an early but with independant front end, disc brakes.electronic ignition,A/C etc.this was also when chevy figured plumbers weren't the only people buying vans and started puttin some nice stuff on them.there were a half dozen or so different trim packages.chevys and GMCs had different packages with the jimmys having the nicer ones.these years you could get a half ton shorty with all the goodies inside, rally wheels, tons of chrome, and a 400 small block for power, and they're the best looking of all the GMs.

I have had my 69 Chevy Shorty for over 28 years now. It started life as a "Dry Cleaning" hauler around the Washington D.C. area and I bought it in Va. Bch. in the summer of ' 74! It then had over 160K miles on it!
I beleive these models, with all of the nice contours, without a doubt are the nicest design, but a ' 70's shorty would be my next choice!
