I was all ways the club member who was ready to go on a long road trip to attend a van run. Like allot of us here health issues have gotten in my way and slowed me down a bit. When I herd the CofC's was being held in Florida again.I made up my mind that I was going on a road trip. The big difference on this road trip was I was doing it solo. Just me, the van, and a long stretch of I 95. I really needed to see if I was still able to pull a trip like this off. In all of the years I have been vanning I have always had my lovely wife by my side. She is a great Navigate,DJ,and a sharp 2nd set of eyes when traveling. This was the first time in cover 20 years that I have went on a long distance vanning adventure with out her in the passenger seat. My trip went well.I was up at 5am to try to beat the crazy traffic that goes around the Capitol Beltway. the sun was not up and it was raining when I hit that stretch of 4 lane chaos.I was in heavy traffic four lanes wide and less than a 3 second zone with the aggressive commuter driver ahead of me.I stayed on top of the wheel.had Nickleback playing loud on the stereo and out ran the Big Dogs.I pulled this trick off and the speedo never saw less than 80. Once I got clear of the capitol beltway and hit Va.I wanted to makeup some time. The speedo in this van only goes up to 85.I know it is 5mph off to the slow side.So pegging the needle down by the non functional trip meter means that I was cruising close to 90.Evidently there where truckers (whales) that where of the same mind set because they where slowly passing me.
I got into NC noticed the fuel gauge was at less than a 1/4 tank.I also noticed the temp gauge was pegged....... I pulled into the gas pumps and was waiting for a huge cloud of steam.....Noting.Shut the van off and it fired right over....Good sign.I filled it up with gas and pulled up to the store front ,popped the hood and was able to pull the cap with out a geyser.......another good sign. The rad was low so I went in and got raped for two gallons of anti freeze. topped the rad off.The van fired right over.I figured I better head back home to keep the tow bill down. The temp gauge was still pegged. I figured I will run her till she drops then call for a tow.I got back on 95 north and started home. Before I could figure out how I was going to get the paint I was carrying for Brad and Dave down to them. The temp gauge dropped to a normal level.I took the next exit and headed back south again.I kept the van at 75ish and cruised through the NC country side. I made a stop in SC took a break let Big Red rest a bit. Stopped and ate some lunch.Went out and cleaned the wheels, and headed out again. Map Guess said this was a 16 hour trip.Liar liar pants on fire.I left at 5 0 clock AM and rolled into the hotel parking lot at 2:30 am.
THE MEETINGS My main reason for attending this meeting was to do a meet and greet of fellow vanners and to help promote the warm up party that the Vintage Chevy Van Club will be hosing for the years Nationals. we got an added bonus. The Vintage Chevy Van Club has now been voted in by our piers, and accepted as the new Vintage Chevy Van Council. This is a HUGE deal for us. I want to personally thank the vanners who spoke up for us and believe in what we stand for. We are the first "cyber" club/organization to be recognized in this manner. As a club at this event we had 7 vans in the show 5 of which where Earlies. One of our new members who's CofC's show experience was his first received best of show.the sweet pro street 66 Pro Street Mustang Fast Back was owned by our club member's brother...... We had two first timers at this event. Both od them enjoyed there experience.they both acted like vanner veterans We actually had most vans in attendance at the show. It was a real pleasure for us to do this......
VANNERS...
Being both a keyboard vanner and a vanner it is always fun for me to place faces with screen names. I have typed to Brad, Lordmodelbuilder a good bit over the years. He has helped mt locate parts and supported V.C.V.C.. to get to finally get to meet him and set and chat with him was a blast.Another vanner with un tapped serious talent. Thanks goes out to Mark from Wheels of Confusion for letting me crash in his extra bed. getting to chat with Spaceman was another high light of my trip. It was also a treat to meet Lukester As always it is great fun to hang out with the group from the Florida Van Council...... One last thing.I really want to thank all of the vanners who supported Custom Vanner Magazine.....
PICTURES.......
I am still working on these ........

I'm enjoying reading these personal accounts of the CofC. Each vanner experiences something different when going to a van event so it's always interesting to see the different points of view especially when you can't make an event yourself. I was happy to hear that VCVC was given council status. This group of vanners and van owners from all over North America have evolved so much over the years from just being a website group to hosting the 2012 pre Nats. | | | Re: Wookee's excelent adventure | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,696 Likes: 172 Old Timer | Old Timer Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 32,696 Likes: 172 | Very nice Joe,sounds like you had lots of fun!
