You'll need splice into the wire coming right off the brake light switch....before the turn signal switch.
Ever get behind someone at a stop light and notice that the only brake light working is the 3rd one? Other than possibly being bad bulbs, usually that means the person's turn signal switch is bad. I just installed high top and am a bit confused on how to splice this in. Do I splice in the rear of the vehicle or does it need to be right at the switch?

If you splice at the rear lights, the 3rd brake light will blink when you hit the turn signals.

Hey Nate, I haven't quite figured this out yet but I am looking to insulate, I am running some wire to different areas in the van before I seal everything up. To prep for wiring this light do I just need to send one wire to the switch under the dash? I am guessing I would wire this to the positive on the light and then the negative I would ground to the body of the van in rear? Thanks!

Assuming you are using a LED third brake light, which do not pull much current, and do not require thick wire to pass small currents, then running copper Zip wire( which is 2 joined wires like speaker wire) is no more difficult, and you can just ground it nearby the brake light switch rather than grounding nearby the light, but its your call. Lots of red/black zip wire, is aluminum or copper clad aluminum. You really want copper, so if they do not state pure copper or the price seems too good to be true it is aluminum or copper clad aluminum Now a lot of people tap into the wire using one of those wire strand breaking press lock snaps. The previous owner of my van did this for a trailer brake, and 9 of the 20 strands were severed in the process, and corrosion ensued and caused nightmare diagnostic issues that induced the fury which launched various tools into low earth orbit followed by a stream of curses still orbiting the planet years later Looking at a pic of a 77 g20 brake light switch, they use 1/4 inch quick connect fittings at the switch Here is a Piggy back connector so that you do not need to use one of those horrible wire destructing wire taps, or stuff bare wire in the existing connector which will later pull off and fail when Murphy dictates: https://www.amazon.com/Ancor-230612...1-1-22d05c05-1231-4126-b7c4-3e7a9c0027d0https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/chevrolet,1977,g20,5.7l+350cid+v8,1045178,electrical-switch+&+relay,brake+light+switch,10474 | | |
