I got this from a guy that was sure it was identical to the pic of the 2176 non egr I sent him. Paid via Paypal and picked it up from his driveway. Not quite what I expected - but was in budget.

Anybody source an egr block-off that is a good fit? Do I plug the holes under the carb with...something?

I'd see if you can tap it out for a 3/8" NPT pipe plugs (or 1/4 NPT if small enough). Make sure if you don't have a spread bore carburetor that you get the metal plate to "square" the intake openning for a standard square bore carb (like edelbrock performer series carbs or holley standard carbs). You can find one here: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/EDL-2732/

This will ensure you don't have a vacuum leak from the channels on the bottom of the carburetor smile You could always go with a phenolic spacer or the like as an alternate option to keep heat out of the carb too smile Just make sure it also seals properly smile

As for the EGR block off, if it just has a couple holes you may be able to tap/plug those as well. Worst case you can take a 1/4" plate of aluminum, a hack saw, and a file and a drill and "make" a block off plate with some elbow grease smile Good luck!

One other thing! Any pipe plugs you put in that may have atomized fuel going past it (i.e. bottom of runners under carb) make sure to use a type 2 gasket sealer on the threads as it will harden and not become gummy or soft when exposed to fuel (like teflon tape can). Should be a brown color and most auto parts stores carry it in the RTV section in a smaller tube. smile

You're in California...they aren't gonna pass that van if it has no EGR on an aftermarket intake.

'75 and previous are not subject to regular inspections in California. This one is already registered in CA and was done with no smog cert., but I think technically you are correct. Do you have direct experience w/ this subject?

Nope. Just helped enough people to restore their smog equipment for CA applications. If it doesn't need smogging (I thought they had closed that loophole) then it doesn't apply.

Does the van has EGR already set up? If so, then I don't see why not hook it up that way.

My Craigslist Edelbrock intake does have egr, but is non functional. I will block it for now but probably run it later when I have resolved other issues. I am generally in favor of egr and other emissions control systems, though some were poorly designed or realized in the first days of emissions control.

I do remember "smog days" when the schoolkids had to stay indoors.

Thanks.

The EGR system in my 83 van with a 318 is all factory original and still works fine. The van has plenty of pickup and power. It should be the same system as s on your van.

Windows- they're what make a van worth owning!

Here are mine brand new in the box never to be installed. That's a great cam too I just read the the centerline of the cam is 110. That's a nice lopeing camshaft. It would probably fit in my crate engine ...but Not. I know some day they will find a good home
