I am getting a set of air shocks for my van for temporary towing anything to watch for? I plan on lowering my van after my big move.

DON'T PUT AIR SHOCKS ON THE VAN. The upper shock mounts are NOT designed to carry the full weight of the van, much less the van plus a load. You will rip out the upper shock mounts. The right way to do this is an air bag helper system or a full air suspension, or replace or re-arch the springs. Air-shocks are a bad idea on vehicles not designed for the shock absorber to take the whole load of the vehicle (i.e. factory load-levelling systems).

Doesn't the air bags cost more and how do they work?

I need to find a cheap solution or the wife is going to make me scrap it and it's too good of a van.

No. The problem is that the upper shock mounts aren't designed to carry the full weight of the van. It doesn't matter is the upper mounts are overloaded by air shocks or are overloaded by shocks with helper springs, the end result is the same: torn out upper shock mounts.

There are bolt on "helper springs" that can be purchased for about the same price as air shocks, but, as I said, the real solution is to replace or re-arch the rear springs.

You should be fine with air shocks, mine have been on the van forever, and I had no problems.
