I'm cleaning the throttle body on my 94 conversion 5.2L. This will probably cover 92-03 Magnum engines. The throttle bodies on MPFI engiines are "dry", meaning only air passes through them whereas throttle bodies on TBI engines are "wet", meaning fuel atomizes in the venturi areas like a carburetor. Carbon deposits still build up on these MPFI throttle bodies. Anyhoo, the last time mine was cleaned was 5 years ago when I replaced the intake plenum gasket.
Let's get this party started. Like my 1980 John McEnroe look?
Disconnect all the wiring harnesses and cables from the throttle body and using a 1/2" socket, remove the 4 throttle body bolts. Doesn't look too bad from this angle.
Ewwwwww. But look at this side!
Gather your supplies. I like using CRC's TB cleaner, it's made for throttle bodies. I'm using an old toothbrush to clean the gunk but you can use a mild brush of your choice.
Buy a quality base gasket. I prefer Fel-Pro.
Use a T-25 Torx driver to remove the IAC Motor.
Holy toledo..look at the gunk on that IAC!! Clean your old one or buy a new one. Now is the time.
Ooooooo look how nice and clean those plates are! Look at that IAC shine!
All back together and the engine purrs like a kitten. Oh and now is great time to check the adjustment on the T.V. cable (kickdown cable). Refer to your service manual for proper procedures.
