mine came about because of our last name, Wolfskill and the fact my wife said (back then) If i brought another van home I would be living in it. . . . . and my daughter cracked That would make it a Wolf Den and it has stuck.

Back in the 70's I named my first van "Mother's Worry" after a T-shirt iron on that was around at the time. My present van's name is fairly obvious. "In The Blood" perfectly describes our lifestyle.
Upstate Vanners Van Club 2013 V.O.I.C.E.S. co-chairman I may be getting older, but I REFUSE to grow up!!! Old School's still cool!
That's funny Denim, my first boat (14ft) was named Mother's Worry. Mainly because MY mother thought I'd get killed in it!
The name Sweet Spot came about when my then girlfriend, now my wife, took a tennis course in college. One day the coach told us to try to hit the ball in the sweet spot of the racket. When I got my first van type of vehicle, a 1968 Chevy Suburban, and fixed it up the term came up in my head, so we named it Sweet Spot. After I bought my current van in 1983 we named it Sweet Spot 2.

Thanks bro, The seats were made by the company that did the conversion on the van. Only the two center seats have the (power) recline feature. So when I built the cabinets I moved the center seat up to the front. The couch in the back is also power and reclines into a bed.
That is Beautiful. Wish mine looked that great. I need to get busy soon after my Dr lifts some of my restrictions.I need to ask where is your antenna?
Thanks man, Funny you should ask about the antenna. I never liked how far forward on the fender the antenna was. So I removed it. I now use a power antenna that mounts on the inside of the windshield. Works great, but I don't listen to the radio much. Why would you when you can watch concert DVD'S
Oh, and if you meant the CB antenna? That is also a window mount, on the driver side bay window.

Thanks, Mine was a stripped van from the factory with no radio. The conversion company mounted a antenna on the driver side right behind the door and it picks up like crap. Looks like a new system with HD Radio and new antenna.
My 76 Chevy pro street is "Zoomie", because of the pipes. My other 76 Chevy is the "Good Timer" Mushroom portholes, with dwarfs painted leaning against them. My 01 Ford 350 Diesel is the "Govt. Mule" because it drives all over the road,(twin I beams) like a Ford, but will pull anything you put behind it!!
Outta Sight............. because I try to keep the custom modifications clean, simple & unnoticed and it has a very 70's sound to it. It took about 15 years for that name hit me.

Munzvan@aol.com / Runnin Wild Truckers / I never met a van I didn't like.
i have 1-xtreme limitzz-red express and 2-xtreme luxuryy- black express.. 1st one came from my very 1st van..i was always doin somethin with it or to it and my friends in school would say ur xtremely insane with the vans eh? lol and it jus kinda came to me back then and stuck with me..to where i have xtreme luxuryy..where it basically explains itself lolol...
We were wondering about the same thing! We had tossed around a couple names and wondered how we would know when we had the right one, well...
We couldn't help but notice that when we are cruising the van people generally have one of two immediate reactions to the beast... wide-eyed fear for their mortal soul, or they start laughing. This van gets giggles wherever it goes, and we tend to appreciate unsolicited laughter, a LOT.
We found ourselves in possession of an odd looking box of "Chuckles" gummy candies, which looked rather ominous resting on the dash, so we left 'em there... the name "Chuck" just sort of stuck.
Now me Ma says that "Everyone knows all classic vehicles are female"... well, to this I reply "Go ahead... call this b*tch Charlene and see what happens" LOL. Like that ol' Jim Croce song about the Roller Derby Queen "She might be nasty, she might be fat, but I never met a person, that would tell her that" (why yes, as a matter of fact I am almost as old as my van LOL).
At this point it matters not a whit to us what others name their vans, if you listen closely your van will share it's own unique nomenclature.
When I bought mine it was covered in Black widows inside and out so I thought the name black widow would be perfect however it's a too common name, so I thought about arachnid or something in the lines of a spider. thought of doing it in spanish but I'm not mexican so go with my heritage and go German Schwarze witwe but it doesn't roll off the tongue... at a loss.
Widow Maker? Alas, I suspect it's all to common as well, but catchy & rather fitting none the less ;)

What one thing you can be sure works on an old van...

"MOTHER'S NIGHTMARE" I just figured if I was to pull up in some mother's driveway to pick up her daughter in my van and she looked out the window what would she think????
GALAXY; I am not for high tops, but you really have a nice Vista Cruzer look going on. Very nice top!! I can imagine cruising down the highway, laid back, at night looking out them at the sky. Not you cause your driving. How cooooool is that.
I also have to agree with Reed. Don't really care for Chevy's but you and lostinthe70eees have made me look twice, OK maybe three times. Both very cooooool vans.
One is for the family guy and one is for the single guy.
Got to love vans they are so versatile.
I am in the process of picking a name. I think I may have one, but don't want to say till it is final. I can tell you it is very Van 70's.
Richard
It is better to have Van'd once in your life, then to never had Van'd at all!
After I sold the second full-size Van, the GMC Vandura 2500, I put the bugdeflector on the front of the Vanagon. I had put "The Galloping Goose" and some small logos on this deflector shield, and so the Vanagon got the nickname "Goose":
As I bought my show-vanagon, it carried the name "Highway Bully" on the bullbar. This sign came from an earlier VW Bus, the previous owner had. First I thought to rename the car, but over the time the name "Highway" burnt into my mind, and so I kept the name.
Since I have repainted the travel-trailer, I call it the goose-trailer.
BTW, I just picked up the goose-trailer on friday after it got the base-roof repainted. And than their is now an airbrush-mural above the tail-window, and american-eagle with a yellow ribbon, painted above a flying star spangled banner.
Will post a picture, when the sealing is finished and the signal-lights and third-brake-light is installed again.

As a kid I grew up in a very tough city. Always figured I'd be lucky to make it out alive. The very first time I ever rode in a van was in '76. I was 15. A buddy of mine had just purchased a bright yellow 67 Chevy van, all decked out. As I rode in his van, with Lynnrd Skynnrd's "Street Survivors" playing on the 8 track, I knew my direction. The van was a symbol of independence, and also a means of escape from the cruel streets of Bridgeport. I too was going to be a survivor of the streets.
I bought a 76 Ford in 1979, and of course, I named it the Street Survivor. I had that van for 10 years, and life got in the way, so I had to sell her. Less than a year later, I found her in a junkyard, smashed and stripped clean. I had a few more vans over the years, and in 2005 I bought my 74 Dodge. This van was unbelievably clean when I got her, no rust at all. A true Street Survivor. I resurrected the name for several reasons. The van and I are both survivors of the streets, and I believe she'll be surviving long after I will. Plus I felt I owed it to the memory of the ol Ford that carried me away from the city I grew up in.
Widow maker was at the top of my list (actually "widower maker") but is was a bit ironic because my wife is deathly allergic to spiders.
I also thought of something military but if I do that I have to roll with the theme-to-name plus if I were going to do that it'd cost me too much to do it right (cummins diesel, allison trans, camo green or tan, blacked out lights, dark tinted windows, parascope, radar system, etc.)
Boot, That's a great story, good to see that something came into your life and changed it for the better, I guess the lesson here is "a van is a very powerful tool, whether for work, play or shows, it will always get the job done and show you a path of light" I think I'm going to put that into a bumper sticker! Thanks!

my first van was a 1977 dodge shorty, yellow, chrome yellow was the paint name, I was a big fan of tequila sunrises at the time, so sunrise express was born, the second and current van also chrome yellow, 1973 shorty dodge van, since I live in phx az now and we have the best sunsets and I'm getting older, sunset express is a fitting name, also because I'm in my sunset years of life...

My van pretty much named itself. On the first nice sunny day we had after purchasing it (as I was sitting inside soaking up the “van-ness” of it), I noticed the color scheme reminded me of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups. The van also gave of a definite male vibe, so I called it Mr. Reese. Pretty simple actually.

My van is named Lil' Shitty because when my wife & I started working on it she said, "No matter what we do to this van, it's always gonna be a little shitty...which is cool". 😂

That's funny! My wife had a blue Fiat 500 that I called "The Little Shit" because it was so "scrappy".
One time, I jokingly called my van the Stay Puft Marshmallow Van and it kind of stuck.
Seriously though a few years ago there was an amber alert for some guy in a white Dodge conversion van that had picked his grand daughter from school and never came back home.
It got full local media attention. In the meantime everybody at work started referring to my white Chevy conversion van as the molester van. In fact I actually parked it until the search was over.
One day I stopped to talk to one of my neighbors when a police car showed up. The officer told me that a white conversion van had been spotted in the neighborhood and someone called the police! He says, "I realize this is no the van we are looking for but we had to investigate it". Despite the situation, I found it kind of amusing. Not that I find doing harm to children amusing.
The eventually found the guy. He and her had been living in a campground or park somewhere in the general area.

My 77 was named Fatal Attraction back in the 70s by previous owner and I am keeping the name. My 72 Chop project doesn’t have a name but I think I will name it Vandemic (because I am getting a lot done on it while I am home during this pandemic).

I named mine Painkiller after one of my favorite records by one of my favorite bands. I really want to do something similar or insprired by this on the van one day, which was their album artwork.

I think so too! I have no windows besides the ports and with a long body, I have plenty of room. I think for now I am going to have my girlfriend hand paint PAINKILLER on each side of the van while its still in this cheap matte black paint I have now. Murals like that deserve proper bodywork and paint. I'll get there eventually

CleatusASlrectus: your Chevy looked almost exactly like my first van: my 1965; only Blue in color; which I believe was bought in 1972. Same thing happened to me with my older brother. My dad was furious we bought without him. My 71 was my all time favorite and my 1974 in 1982 was nice.
Deathorvictory; Lee7673 is right on: with PAINKILLER Tribute. I saw them in San Bernardino in I believe 82/83. OFF THE HOOK ! ( I bet you like UFO !! )
We saw them last year, still so good! Heard Painkiller and a few others from the album live! Definitely like UFO, I really like Doctor Doctor. That bluesy driven rock is so good.
Right on ! I have been so lucky in my life and have seen so many legends that are gone :
Stones ( I'd be embarrased to tell you how many times ) ; Led Zeplin; Humble Pie ; Linda Ronstadt with the Stoned Ponies ( Eagles ) ; Nazareth; Guns & Roses; Santana ; Tina Turner w/stones; The Kinks : ELO; Ted Nugent ; Ufo; Black Sabbath ; Queen; Rainbow ; AC/DC; Fleetwood Mac; Jethro Tull; Eric Clapton; Todd Rudgren; Ringo Starr and Allstar Bands ( always a great show) ; Allman Brothers; Lynard Skynyrd; Bowie; Alice Cooper; Crosby Stills Nash and Young; Beep=Bop Delux; Doctor John; Emerson; Lake and Palmer; Genisis; Journey with Rick Perry; KIZZ in 1976 ? Motley crue; Rick James; Prince; Doobie Brothers; Gary Clark from Texas ( off the hook opened for Stones ) and believe it or not; Frank Sinatra 8 times ( my Dad's Favorite) and Elvis Presley with my mom in Vegas two years before he died to name a few I can "remember" !
I've been very Lucky. I wish I had a Hot Tub Time Machine !
I was outside thinking about the good times and I can't believe I left out Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon Tour in 1972' in Los Angeles and Bad Company's 1st Tour and "Yes" a few times !
I'm blown away I didn't remember the Who Tour in 1975 ( and yes Kieth Moon was their Drummer ) in Los Angeles. Highest energy concert I ever went to in my Life. They were UNREAL. Also saw them on the original Quadrophenia Tour. Mind Blowing Album.
Here's one for you Deathorvictory= URIAH HEEP ! KILLER IN CONCERT ! Awesome band. OMG How could I forget Deep Purple ! I need to stop now before I over-load whats left of my brain ! I couldn't resist adding : Grand Funk Railroad: Foghat ; Steely Dan in early 70's...........they stopped touring for decades and saw again in 90's , Faces with Ronnie Wood and Rod Stewart.

I'm loving that name "Blue Illusion", that's killer.
I just realized I hadn't chimed in on mine. I ask all my vans nicely, then patiently wait until they are ready to tell me their names. My first was the 76 G10 "the Rum Cutter", the 2nd and current is "Queen Anne's Revenge", and my 2000 Astro was "Clean Francine".
