I need to replace the rear main seal on the engine. I unbolted the drive shaft from the rear end but cant seem to get the driveshaft to come out. No amount of prying or banging will get it to drop. Is there a trick or what? I dont want to hit it directly with the hammer so as not to mess up the balance. Most driveshafts I have taken off drop after removing the bolts, so any ideas?

If you have the van lifted on the axle it may have taken all the play out at the transmission holding it in place.
