Hey guy's,
I just wanted to warn everyone about Discount Truck and Van here in Southern Cal. I ordered flares and a spoiler from them in Nov. and had to return them because they were integral flares instead of independent flares. After they replaced my order with there vendor, I called them to check the status and they told me they would be delivered on Thurs. On Fri., I called them again to check the status and they told me the item was no longer available.
WHAT?????

Anyway, they now are charging me an $80 dollar restocking fee (30%) and blamed ME saying I never said I wanted separate flares. UNREAL!!! I told them every time I talked to them.

Now I can't afford to paint them when I get them and I missed two shows because of it.

There is more that sucked about them but I'll spare you the rant.

I just called to make sure, they are different companies.

I've called the Accessory Center now twice and was told two diffferent things. Maybe you guy's can help clear it up.

The first two pics are the flares I want, the third pic is the kind I DON'T want.
Are the flares the same with different spoilers, or are they two different types of flares all together?

I only see 2 pics, but the white/red van has standard flares. The yellow one has blend flares. the rears are the same on both vans. The fronts are different. The blends do just that...blend into the spoiler. The standards are not touching.

Basically...
Blend flares feature front flares that drop below the body to meet the spoiler. These must have the spoiler to look right.

Mudflares feature front flares that end at the body, and the spoiler extends past the bumper ends to meet the flare. All 4 flares have a mudflap type extension at the back of the flare. Mudflares can be run as a 4 piece set and look fine.

Standards feature both the spoiler and the front flares ending at the body, thus not meeting at all. Standards can be run in 4 piece sets, also.

Hope this helps.

I also noticed that the white van has a bumper mount spoiler, while the blend spoiler mounts behind the bumper.

Just answered my own question yet again. Here is another shot of the type I don't want. It's wider in the bottom front part of the flare. It would probably look funny without the connecting flare.
(Tom, please don't think I don't like your van, I absolutely love it, I just want different flares.)

This one above has the mudflares as Howard described. They are the style I have on my Dodge. they allow aslo for the attachment of a running board that blends into the flares.

I'm getting bummed because Hanks, Accessary Center and the idiots I ordered from all call their integral flares "standard" even though they connect. They all also make bigger "mud" flares. I can't seem to find anyone who makes these thinner independent flares.
Anyone got any ideas?

I bought a front air dam from these Guys and thought the service , shipping and product were excellent. This was 2 years ago. I remember speaking with John when I had questions about my order. He was real interested in what I was trying to do and very helpful.

Are you sure those 2 van shops are not just 1 shop? Tom deals with that place in Rancho Cucamunga all the time. The owner is the guy who came to the 06 CofC in Anaheim. Does not look like they sell the kind of flares you are looking for. Bummer, I also like the look of those on the Fords. Here's another pic of a Ford with them Brad

Hey Brad,
Yeah I'm sure, I called them yesterday. The shop I had the problem with is in Bell Gardens and says Buena Park on their letterhead. They don't give an address online either but that's where they are. The one Tom gave me a catalog to is out in Rancho like you said. They are cool but don't make them.

I forgot about that pick. I love that van, I have it in a mag as well.

I believe we are saying the website www.trucknvans.com and "Accessory Center" are the same place. Or at least that is what I am saying.

I think he wants the older style of standard flares that curl in to meed the body instead of being square at the bottom which are going to be very hard to find, especially for a mid ford. Just about all you ever see anymore are mudder flares. I would try to find a set for cheap and attempt to modify them to look the way you want.

I go to Truck-ins. How about you?

I do want the older style but unless I find them in a yard I don't think they are made any more.

Six shot...
Thanks so much for posting those, I didn't know they had pics online. If I have to, I'll order those. I was just scared because the dude didn't really seem sure about what they looked like. Your the man! If anyone has a link or knows where I can score a set of the older style independent flares please hit me up.

Hey Nate,
yeah I called him yesterday but he couldn't understand what I was looking for. Kept trying to explain to me that the mud flares can work without a spoiler. I just kinda gave up explaining it to him. He was nice though!

According to truck n vans, the blend style flares can be used with or without a spoiler. It's the mud flares that require a spoiler.

EyeBrow flares maybe? Don't remember if they had an official name but that's what I called them back in the day.Had a set on my 76 Dodge and they didn't'flare'out much on the ends just sorta the same width overall, maybe 2-3 inches, then tappered in at the ends IIRC? I didn't keep mine on very long as they didn't stop much mud/water from spraying up the sides and went with Mud flares instead.Hell I forgot about those skinny flares, when I got mine back in 76 it was like 'Flares for XX$,here's my MasterCharge(remember that name?)send them!'.I didn't know flares from Jack Sh@$ back then but learned quick.
You might have to get the 'blend' flares and do some cutting/glassing to bring/tapper the ends in.Good luck.

Sounds like the type of flares I have on my Dodge. I can't wait to change them to mud flares w/ an integral spoiler. I just like that look so much better for my van.

Sounds like Jay got what he's been after but....,
I'm reading above link as non-mud flare does not intergrate with spoiler,so they may call it a blend set but I'm reading it as standard flares.Might be wider then he wants but blends into body on ends independant of spoiler.Standard/entery level today was maybe fancy shmancy in days gone by.

The simple solution to this problem is simple. The Business is in SoCal and so is Jay. Get off the couch and make a road trip and bring pictures. Could end this debate once and for all. It will educate those at these business's as well.

Here are some pics. I don't know if it resolves anything as far as a name for these things but here they are.
Funny thing is, These originally came off of a van a few blocks from my house that got scrapped and found in the junk yard by John (jklnhyde) on the econoline board. I tried to buy the van before it went to the yard but couldn't get ahold of the owner. I always regretted not pulling the flares from it. (It had been abandoned). I still can't believe someone abandoned it and ignored my note asking to sell it (on the windshield in the picture). He got the flares fixed and was trying to get molds made but it didn't work out. He just got them back two days ago and when I went through my old pics of vans looking for examples of what I wanted, I ran across pics of the old van they were on. Funny how things come full circle sometimes.
John is a great guy and always finds great scores for these vans. I can't thank him enough.

Man what a shame. The body on the gray van looks pretty sweet.
I would be snatching up tose rust free solid rear doors.....

Those flares look good on your ford. The tire/wheel combo fills them nice.

Ok I know this is an old post buy I received a call from a customer whom saw it so hopefully I can alleviate some confussion. www.trucknvans.com carries 4 Styles of Flare Kits 4pc Standard Flares, 4pc Combo Flares, 5pc Blend Flare kit, and the 5pc Mud Flare Kit.

1: 4pc Standard Van Flares 4pc Standard Flares: This is a 4pc set of regular independent flares they are not designed to integrate with a front spoiler these flares taper back into the body on both the fronts and rears of the flares

2: 4pc Combo Van Flares 4pc Combo Flares : The 4pc Combo Flare kit is a independent flare set with the Front being the standard style that taper back to the body on the front and rear side of the flare while the rear flares are the mud style (Mudder) Flare which has a squared of mud flaps that extends down past the body.

3: 5pc Blend Style Van Flare Kit 5pc Blend Flare Kit: This flare kit appearance wise is similar to standard flares however; the front flares either turn in and attach to a front spoiler or mount to the top depending on the Year,Make and Model of Van. The Rear flares are standard and tapper back to the body they are the exact rear flares from a Standard kit to the Blend 5pc kit, the only difference being the Fronts of the 5pc kit attach to the spoiler.

4: 5pc Mud Style Van Flare Kit 5pc Mud Flare Kit: Some call this Mudder style flares we refer to them as mud. The Front side of the front flares of the mud flare kit attach to a front spoiler either on the side or top and feature a squared off mud flap on the back side of the flare. The rear flare has a small rectangular flat tab style in the front also feature a mud flap that is in the rear of the back flare. This kit has a couple of additional add-on options. The front rectangular tab in the front is there to allow a seamless addition of our side fiberglass runningboards ther butt up to the back of the front mud flare and butt up against the rectangular tab on the front of the rear flare. For a limited amount of Vans mostly Chevy, GMC we have Gas Tank Covers or Rollpans and these mount to the back side of the rear flare

Sorry to revive a super dead thread, but what is the quality of the flares from Trucknvans? I know most fiber glass parts need to be worked as they rarely fit perfect the first try, but I am hesitant to order anything until I know for sure. I emailed Kirk but I haven't heard anything from him about his flares.

Best way to get a hold of Kirk is to call him. He's always answered his phone, never an email from me.

Kirk is a great guy and his flares are as nice as you will find. Definitely call him though. He is old school and you will have the most success via phone.

I think many folks on this forum have also done business with Trucknvans including flares. The NorCal wing that I got from Kirk actually is made and comes from Trucknvans and the quality is really nice.

It all boils down to how much material they use and the quality of the mold. I have heard mixed feelings about the company but have not seen first hand.

When in doubt..get the sawzall out..
