70's vintage fender flares | Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 1 stranger | OP stranger Joined: Nov 2008 Posts: 1 | I just found this site after much surfing, and I'm really glad I found it. I'm restoring a 1980 Chevy G20 Rockwood conversion van and I've had no luck finding those 70's vintage fender flares. I've no idea what company made them, but looking at photos here and elsewhere I see they were really common back in the day.
The fender flares I currently see are more the ones sold/used in the 90's - they hug closer to the body and are more rounded. The vintage ones I'm looking for are more squared off and stick out further - probably for that 70's wide tire hot rod look.
The previous owner must have backed into something and broke the passenger side rear one, and the drivers side rear has some cracks, maybe from age, but it's still holding together. These flares aren't fiberglass but some sort of heavy, thick ABS plastic. I think they're similar to what the A-team van had.
I actually started restoring it about 7 years ago but other projects got in the way and it was put on the backburner. The van is currently buried in the back of the barn so I can't get photos of the flares, sorry. Thanks for any help anyone can give. | | | Re: 70's vintage fender flares | Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 780 old hand | old hand Joined: Oct 2005 Posts: 780 | ![[Linked Image]](https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/hotrodAl/000_0127-1.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](https://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/hotrodAl/th_002.jpg) Crimson Ghost Deacon Blues Proud member and President of Vandangos Honorary member of Hooterville Vanners Columbus,Oh

He was "J&J Fiberglass" and he has sold the molds and Kind of wishes he had them back. We drink a few beers every now and then and talk about it. if there were more people needing them to make it worth while is the thing. He stopped building the glass because people stopped building vans. He had the best and he liked vanners the best he started building street rod bodies after us but he always said street rodders are no fun. vanners liked to drink beer and have a good time. I do know where the molds went, but he is not doing anything with them and is hard to reach.

Not sure how Discount Van and Truck or The Accessory Center (trucknvans.com) are getting their f/g stuff.

Does he still have the molds for the gull wings? or did they go to the same person that has the flair molds? | | |
