Breaks my heart. | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23758 September 05th 2005 12:47 am | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 643 International Vanner to the Bone | International Vanner to the Bone Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 643 | Finland is one of those countries, who will give help to US. Finland has only 5,2 million people, and ~1,5 million was evacuated from New Orleans area!! Thats a lot compared to our population. Gup, hope that you got out of there. Be safe! | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23759 September 05th 2005 8:00 am | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 799 old hand | old hand Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 799 | yea but the gov. is refusing alot of the gellp from other countries,,,, To much pride??? don't understand,, Castro wanted to send aid but Brush refused it...... | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23760 September 05th 2005 11:13 am | Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 Maniac | Maniac Joined: Aug 2001 Posts: 12,107 Likes: 37 | I'm not surprised Bush is refusing aid. He and lots of other Americans have this mindset that the US is better than the rest of the world and can survive without interaction with anyone else (ever seen those "get US out of the UN" bumper stickers?)
At this point I say we should take aid from wherever we can get it. Who cares where the aid comes from as long as it means those poor people in the South get help! | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23761 September 06th 2005 12:29 am | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 2 stranger | stranger Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 2 | The problem in taking help from some countries is in the political situation. We can't afford the help if it weakens our bargaining stance as with Cuba. It has nothing to do with being better than anyone else. | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23762 September 05th 2005 3:14 pm | Joined: Sep 2002 Posts: 6,261 Bad Girls from New York, Bad Western Inn in IN. | Bad Girls from New York, Bad Western Inn in IN. In that world--if I got and you need it that's all we need to know!
I am glad that so many countries are trying to help us. Kinda shrinks the big ball we live on! | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23763 September 05th 2005 3:41 pm | Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 2,273 veteran | veteran Joined: Jun 2008 Posts: 2,273 | The problem is we were counting on the government to do the right thing and they let us down. If I had known how it would go down I could have been in New Orleans with a van load of water before the rain stopped. I'm still kicking myself in the ass for assuming someone else would take care of those people. | | | Re: Vanner in paradise, Hurricane Katrina style #23764 September 06th 2005 2:28 pm | Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 12,898 Vanner | Vanner Joined: Jun 2003 Posts: 12,898 | We are moving several hundred loads of bottled water south to distribution centres near the disaster areas. I arranged 20 loads before I left and my staff continued to send more down while I was at Butler. The 40 % jump in fuel does not hurt us to much as I guess FEMA is flipping the bill. Which means American Income Taxes are funding the Fuel producers.....sorry guys...but I feel the water is to important down there to stop and park the trucks............... | | |
