Hey all, first time poster here - 1987 Chevy G20, swapped the 305 with a 350
I had a lot of squealing from my belt, so I changed it
Still squealing so I changed the idler pulley.
Then the alternator
Then the Belt tensioner
Still squealing. So I removed the smog pump and got a shorter belt to replace the old one. low and behold, she quieted down. I was sitting pretty thinking I had the issue fixed but the next day my belt started to shred, so I got a new one and chalked it up bad installation, seeing that the belt was riding too close to the inside edge of the AC pulley. no problems for the day, no problems the next morning, but now it’s shredding this one. Thinking that the belt may be catching on the bracket bolt that connects the tensioner to the A/C. The end of it looks a bit shiny. My question is are there any unusual side effects to a smog pump delete such as chewing through belts or could it be this little accessory bolt in the way? Runs just fine and then the belt starts getting shredded all of a sudden. Thanks in advance.
