I'm definitely not an audio expert but I believe you always want your subs facing the back of the vehicle. So it will cause the sound waves bounce back to the front of the van. There are a lot of factors that will affect the sound. Such as windows in the van, insulation, wall coverings etc. You might just have to move it around until you get the sound you want. My buddy had a box with two tens. It was originally behind the front seats. Subs facing up. He decided to move it to under the bed where they faced out the back doors when opened. It made a huge difference in sound quality. I would say it made for a longer rumble. If that makes sense.

I really some one with some real knowledge chimes in on this. I would also like to know more.
