Sorry I saw this thread a little late, but here's another potential option for antenna mounting if you don't want to put a hole in the exterior bodywork:

I mounted my 3' antenna using a mirror clamp style mount but I attached it to the spare tire carrier, then ran the cable down the carrier, through the lower door hinge, and then underneath where it comes up through the floor in a grommet to inside the van. Might not be the best option for you, but just another idea...
