Whose drag van is that?
That drag van is a regular at Maple Grove drag strip.
There was a quick shot of it when the "Pinks" crew was filming there.........

The big bow tie is a window.....
He drives the van from behind the dog house in the back.......
.......Wookee
Here's the Chevy page from the 2012 calendar
Slowburn, one of the nicest newer style vans ever built. Never saw the van and the owner who sent me the picture unfortunately passed away.
Never Enough, one of the best and most radical ever built, 4 time Best of Show Nationals. Frank's new one will definitely be among the top Chevies ever as well.
Gods of Olympus, the nicest Chevy ever in my driveway. The van was sold by the original owner/builder from our club M.O.V.E and unfortunately destroyed in an "accident" shortly after. Photo taken in 1979.
Future Shock, one of the very early show vans that inspired many to build custom vans. Now owned by Howard.
Randy Pelc owned but did not build this mighty fine 4x4 for awhile, pretty sure it has been sold.
Not sure of the name, saw this one at Truckin' Inta Summer in late 70's.
Ivan's visions, at Ottawa Valley Vans event late 70's.
Trix 2 at Truckin' Inta Summer late 70's. One of my all time faves.
Primer Donna actually out of primer which has been very rare in it's lifetime. Seen here at Maine Event late 70's.
Last seen ... in primer at the 2011 nationals. I've been told next time we see it, it will be in paint !
The drag van from Maple Grove drag strip is slick!
i was friends with the owner of slowburn few years ago on myspace the van was still black and green flamed..saw current pics of the van about 2yrs ago maybe less and learnd he had passed, may he rip hopefully his van is around and will live on...would love to see it in person, alotta work went into it..

too bad there where never good outside pictures taken of that White Chevy.........
.......Wookee
This is my first attempt at adding photos. I hope that it worked. The goal was to have the images appear versus the link. The van is a 1974 Chevy and it was my first chop. The van was shot down in Virgina at Vanfest in 1978. After the truckin I painted the van black and drove it to California to go to work for the guy that built the Gladiator Van. The job did not work out so I sold the van (gave it away) to get back to Ohio.
That was a sweet looking ride Randy.I like the hood on it.
What a beauty Radicalran! Thanks for posting those pics. Any idea whatever happened to her?
Great looking metal work as usual Randy.....
I love the bow tie tail lights.......
What type of glass did you use for the pop out rear windows?
.......Wookee
Randy, you must have started at a young age to be able to do that chevy at 23 !!!post some pics. of your customs,,
That was a sweet looking ride Randy.I like the hood on it.
Thanks Jim! I'm not sure that I have ever seen anyone else do the same. It provided better access to the battery, etc.
What a beauty Radicalran! Thanks for posting those pics. Any idea whatever happened to her?
I have no idea but I have often wondered. The guy that bought it was kind of a motor head so maybe he just beat the crap out of it. Some place I probably have a picture of it in black but where I have no idea.
Great looking metal work as usual Randy.....
I love the bow tie tail lights.......
What type of glass did you use for the pop out rear windows?
.......Wookee
Wookee, The windows were small enough that flat glass worked OK so I had a guy cut them from laminated glass. The tail lights I made from sheet metal and cut the lens from plexiglass. I really appreciate the compliments.
Randy, you must have started at a young age to be able to do that chevy at 23 !!!post some pics. of your customs,,
To be honest I rarely took pictures of stuff that I built. Back then camera technology was 110, 35 or Polaroid which were all a pain and costly. There's not enough space for the story but it starts with getting married and having my daughter at age 16 so money was not really part of the equation... I did build a lot of stuff back in the 70's & 80's. I wish that I had picture.
Randy, everything u have built I like..too bad u don't have the time & I don't have the money for u to work on mine.
see, told yah cass is wookees fav model
and randy that was a sweet lookin chevy...i like that hood idea and the tail lights!

Israel, I would be honored to do a van for you so if I even make it back home I'll put you on the top of the list. It's a great time for vanning as there are so many projects being built.

It's got that tux and tail look to go with the tie...
i like that its smooth and flows flat..how was that done?
I'm thinking they milled in recessed edges on a thick (12mm) sheet of polycarbonate leaving the window flush with the body work.
I can't believe I'm about to type this, but that bowtie window looks great in there like that!
Maybe you'll like this one also

Just imagine this same van with wheel well mods with bags so that it could be lowered to the ground. How cool would that be?
I was thinking smaller/skinnier tires up front, with more lift in the front springs, GASSER STYLE ! I love it as is, or modified more, just a killer van either way.
Thats sick looking...I just got a new love for an early....
Just imagine this same van with wheel well mods with bags so that it could be lowered to the ground. How cool would that be?
I was thinking maybe just smaller wheels and tires.
But the molded side pipes are wicked cool! And did ya check out the triple wiper setup?
Just imagine this same van with wheel well mods with bags so that it could be lowered to the ground. How cool would that be?
You kinda have to remember when this van was first built back in the early 80's.A 4x4 conversion was a "hot lick" back then
It has a fully functional 4x4 set up underneath it now.
This Early has some Bad ass body mods done to it.
Body mods the judges at the C of C's show did not notice........
.........Wookee
Oh, I didn't notice that it was 4x4. I want to amend my statement to BIGGER wheels and tires
Zelda is a gorgeous van and always has been going back to the seventies with it's Roger Dean inspired murals. I was thrilled to see that it's still in gorgeous shape after all these years. Wookee nailed those recent pictures of it. Here's a couple from Truckin' Inta Summer 1980.

That must be a real fast van, Or you have a lot of slow 5.0's where you are from. Around here at Moms Racing they easily run low 12's and 11's and down to 8 sec in the 1/4 mile
http://momsracing.com/ I must add that mine is a convertible and not in the league with the 11 & 12 sec cars, mine does high 13's in the 1/2
but it sure is fun on a hot summer night

From the Nationals burn out contest...
SWEET Chevy!!! Poor tires.....that happend to me one time.
That was intentional. He had a blue tire mounted on his van. And his wife has a nice ford van, she had a red tire mounted on her van. For the grand finally of the burn out contest they lined up next to each other and had red white and blue smoke rising...Nice!
Don't you dare post the ford van in this thread!
AND WHATS WRONG WITH FORDS?
**EDIT**

Mike Donahues van came out of retirement at the 34th nationals in Va.
Mike had it stored away in his garage/basement for close to 20 years. Each year since the 34th Mike has made the nationals with more work done on this van.....

Mike is talking this year that the van will be in paint next year.......

I thought she looked about 18, Oh the van!
I really liked that van. Saw it at the 39th nationals. I really liked the back as well. I wondered if he made the back or it was bought.
Mike just got done redoing the back of this van just before the 38th Nationals. It is sporting a custom made 40/60 door.
Every thing you see on this van was custom made by its owner.
I feel as though the judges over the years have over looked allot of the work Mike has done to this van.....
.........Wookee
It really caught my eye forsure! Like to see somthing truely custom not just bolt ons like I have. If he gets it in paint that thing will be bitchin' even more than what it is now!! And thanks for the rear pic!
This van has been flying under the radar for quite a few years now.....
.........Wookee
I'm on the fence on this paint job ...... But once again ... this Vans Riding height and wheel combo is everything .

John Jackson is shooting this van the Emerald Express this week, I met the owner Scott at Autorama last weekend and had a long chat with him. excited to see what kind of magic John makes with this beauty.
Man that is a low chop on that early!
Yes it is. And I add my vote for Chevy's being the best vans overall, especially when they are converted to 4x4's.
No stolen pictures here.
Like ALL of the pictures I post. I was at an event and took ALL of my pictures.....
.........Wookee
I'm usually too busy drinking to take photos. I'll just steal yours and everyone elses
Now I did NOT say that Chevy/GMC vans make bad looking or ugly 4x4, by no means did I say that, They (any brand) van makes a good looking 4x4, I (me , myself) just happen to think the 75-91 Fords make the best looking 4x4s. . . . but hell, even the Toy-yodas make good looking 4x4s ! Now, bring on the Chevy's !
Don't be so thinned skinned Unk
I took no offense.....
.......Wookee
LOL Okay. . . . Now then, BRING ON THE PICS !
Here is another black beauty...

Couple of shots of my Chebby. . . . . .
Well I guess if you want to go bold... Go green!
Dig the body mods, but what ever blows your hair back on the color.
Can I play too? This was a chevy I had also had clear turn signals in it to, but kept them when I sold it they where impossible to find!!
The replacement....

The purple 2nd gen is running a built 327.....

Check out this sweet first gen.
Very pretty, I like the unmolested look
That shot of Wookee's van on the way to National Trail was one of my better shots from last year. John shot a bunch on that trip that we have yet to see. John is one of the best road shot photographers there is. To be able to shoot with him that day was very special.
Here's a few more Chevies.
The Chevy/Corvair/GM line up at the 39th Nats.

Love the side pipes! I also did the black grille thing when I first started restoring my van. Then I realized how much better a chrome grille looks.
These would make a great tug o war!
she pulls good. i got the old 250 six banger and three on the tree and she pulled my old spartan travel trailer that weighed dang near 5,000 lbs.
Yup, strong motor. Can't kill an I block!

Way easier to hang a door than replace a fender.
Next time you are on the I 95 corridor call me we will do lunch or dinner......
.......Wookee
If this is a Ford and not a chevy I apologise I've never actually seen an early in the metal.

Did you notice the skulls molded into the corners of the bumpers?
Bernie just added over 100 additional skulls inside and out to this van over the winter.....
There are skulls in the paint that my camera did not pick up
.....Wookee
I see the one on the bumper, very cool

Heck yeah, those vans belong in this thread for sure!
At some point I'll have to write up the story on the Eagle Nest van.
The short of it is Mikey Midnight won that van in a raffle, and I'm glad he did. He is meticulous as hell and restored the van as well as anybody could have....
Reminds me of a few more vans that have not been posted here yet.
Flamed!
And I wish I had some better pics of Outta Sight (aka Munz Van)
A kinda rat-rod Chevy chop there. Love the wheel standing early. The 4x4 has been around a long time but none the less, it's an awesome van.

Why is it so odd to have the round headlights inthe 78-80 chevys? Mine is a 80 but has the same grill and lights as the jarvis van. Must i see have square lights. Just curious?

I am still learning all of the new type of photography.
I am in a love hate relation ship with the current camera i am using.
I have another here that I want to practice with this season.
If my pictures inspire some body to get out there and buy/build a van then all of the effort I put into learning new things make it and even more enjoyable...
......Wookee
Mr. Wookee, you always have GREAT PICS ! Just keep doing what your doing, I would say you have got it right so far. . . .

Can't wait for the Nats!!
Hey thanks for the additional pic wook. I find it highly amusing that we were both at so many of the same runs, Yet we only met a few years ago.
I have been putting forth more of an effort since I came out of retirement at the 33rd Nats to get out and actually meet more of the vanners attending events, both new and old.

He kept the '75 style grille and added the newer quad headlight setup. I think that's a great modification! Also notice the killer hood scoops and shaved door handles. I think he has enough to show in Mild Custom.
How about some chops!

Not sure what year that van was built, but those are Monte Carlo quad lights and was something that was done on the GM vans starting in the early 70's long before the factory ever thought about doing them. Cool look.Brad
My buddy Bryce's van, rolling on 20's
I love this van but I wonder are the side pipes just for show
if you look behinde the rear tire you can see the tail pipe??
My buddy Bryce's van, rolling on 20's

The Vintage Chevy Van Club's members are spread all over the US.Due to different personal time lines you don't get a chance to convoy all together to events.
We do hope to make up for this this year.A group is meeting in Ohio then leaving for Wisconsin.
We do like to take a cruise around the Nationals grounds before the van show and the "Early Line Pp"
I have posted this picture in this thread before.Sorry it is one of my favorites.

The Astro is a sleeper with a capitol S.....
........Wookee
Really likin that yellow Astro......
Really likin that yellow Astro......
Me too. I like the look of the no-door on this van. All are very nice. I still don't understand GM's decision to stop producing these. Even with low volume production they should have been making money. I know that the Vette offers high profit margins but they make only about 30,000 a year...
Really likin that yellow Astro......
wookee, radicalran, al55 thank you for the compliments.
wookee, thank you for the Astro/Safari pictures
Yes, yellow Astro very nice, I didnt notice the filled/shaved sliding door the first time I seen it.
Astros & Safaris did miserable at front end collision, some of the reason discontinued. The rise in sales of SUVs really hurt too. I think it was also about the same time S10s and the 4.3 engines were also discontinued.
Nice pics.I really like that silver one and the chopped in the last pic.
Really
pics of those Astros thanks for sharing wookee

I agree on all your points. They were still moving enough of them to make money, but the 4.3 was being phased out and they would not invest the fitment of a new engine in an unsafe platform from 1985. Strange that they did put 4 wheel discs on for the last 3 years though.
I too love the yellow one, even more that that top one, which is mine. LOL Denny from Colorado owns that beauty.
Strange there was no Astros in the show at Lost Memorial Day.
I did not know you owned that Astro Bryce.
It was parked on top of the hill where I was parked at the 33rd Nats in Pa......
........Wookee
very nice.
If i ever went back to a 2wd van that would be my choice - SWEEEEEET !!
