Alcoholic beverages are products that exceed 0.5% alcohol by volume. If you meet the minimum age requirements of the province or territory where you enter Canada, you can include limited quantities of alcoholic beverages in your personal entitlement. Minimum ages for the importation of alcoholic beverages, as prescribed by provincial or territorial authorities, are as follows: 18 years for Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec; and 19 years for the remaining provinces and territories.
You are allowed to import only one of the following amounts of alcoholic beverages free of duty and taxes:
1.5 litres (53 imperial ounces) of wine; or a total of 1.14 litres (40 ounces) of alcoholic beverages; or up to 8.5 litres of beer or ale.
Note: The CBSA classifies "cooler" products according to the alcoholic beverage they contain. For example, beer coolers are considered to be beer and wine coolers are considered to be wine. Beverages not exceeding 0.5% alcohol by volume are not considered to be alcoholic beverages.
The quantities of alcohol you can bring in must be within the limit set by the province or territory where you enter Canada. If the value of the goods is more than the free allowance, you will have to pay duty and taxes, as well as provincial/territorial assessment on the excess amount. In Nunavut and the Northwest Territories, you cannot bring more than the free allowance. For more information, check with the appropriate provincial or territorial liquor control authority before your arrival to Canada.
The 3rd annual Pre Vanfest Virtual Tour happened yesterday. We filled up my TMW Astro to the brim with Econo lovers. It was a good day but some key contacts were MIA at both the Guild and Steamwhistle.
The group with Supervan:
Two extremely cool Vanups:
Doug S's garage. Doug was a member of SOVC, one of the most travelled clubs out of Canada in the heyday, they were regulars at King City and good pals with Midwest. If ever you get a chance to visit another vanner's place jump at it. Doug's setup is amazing, he just finished off the ultimate garage behind the house.
The gurus of Econolines in front of the only van we could find, a Sprinter
The biggest disappointment of the day was not seeing either of the vans at Steamwhistle when I was told both would likely be there. But we did have a good tour of the brewery, then the others went up the CN Tower and we finished off the day at Wayne Gretzy's with supper on the rooftop terrace.
Today Ken,Mary Frances and Bongo are hosting the many long haulers coming from all parts at their place. Ken is already lining up some photo ops,
The Econo guys are providing all the photo ops before Vanfest. Crazy me thought that the threat of thunderstorms and rain could dampen the party at Kens for the long haulers. Not a chance, although I puppied out, Ken managed to snap an all time classic garage scene. I added my 2% to it to make it pop a bit. 5 Econos and a Chevy.
Vanfest wouldn't be the same without you Howard. So it was never a question of if you would be there this year, it was always how. Final preparations being done now before I blast off. The van will be full of "stuff" including my full desktop PC. It's been working overtime burning DVDs and editing stuff for the memorial to Al Brown. We'll be taking thousands of pictures this weekend. It's pretty much a done deal that we'll get our coverage in Mini Truckin' magazine, they were supposed to come but it didn't work out. I've enlisted the help of some top notch young photographers to help out with this. I'll be sending the coverage to Truckin, Street Trucks and a Canadian magazine as well. That's pretty much the only thing that we were missing with this great event was magazine coverage. Once that happens then my job is done.
Made it for Saturday in time to see the show n shine and got to talk to Doc and Vanner Deb n Gilles... and a bunch of others.... good time and yes it is possible for 2 adults to sleep in an HHR panel comfortably, as long as one of them is only 5'1"....
On Friday Jeff from the Carwarz Youtube channel came by. I had the pleasure of showing him a round for a few hours and we had some fun. Rob outdid himself once again :
Look down the right column beside this video, he took a good bunch.
Lol, where were you Mr Honey ? The Bad Girls were there. Maybe you are just a keyboard vanner now. I hope you redeem yourself by going to Provanity this weekend.
My van and I wont be attending any runs this year. I'm going to leave my Van bare, as is for a while. But now that I see Vans are no longer the main vehicle at a run maybe I could drive my SUV and tent it, or stay at a hotel nearby

Huge thanks to Howard for being at Vanfest once again this year. He's always been an integral part of the Vanfest Show n Shine which is getting very close to 200 vehicles and is setup, judged and awards all given the same day. This year we also had Howard presiding over the Al Brown Memorial on Saturday right in the middle of it all in the afternoon. Howard was one of Al's oldest friends there, their friendship going back to 1976. He mentioned that he's getting too much practice at this having done the memorial at Midwest as well for 3 Midwest members who passed in the last year. Hopefully the next year will be easier on us all. Thanks to Geoff, Sonya, Judith and all the Vanfest show n shine team and I apologize for throwing that additional constraint of the Memorial into the show n shine timing. We learned some hard lessons from all this especially me.
Thanks for posting the pics Howard. I'm a little bummed I didn't make this year, it looks like everyone had a good time, maybe next year. I don't mind the pickup's they have some really cool rides and great suspension ideas.
