Also looked at a 99 for 900 bucks, former service van, but runs great. Has a little rust on the rockers and needs a grille and bumper.

does the first one run/drive?
Posted By: Uncle_Fester Re: Looking at a couple vans. - June 27th 2012 8:30 pm
I would go with the first one, IF it is a runner, or can be fairly easy.

Its been sitting for 10 years is what i've been told.... Im kind of worried about that, im tired of working on mechanical bs. Also looking at maybe going off the deep end with an 06 ford, then i'd be making payments though.

if it's been sitting for 10 years the underneath is probably rusted bad. You would have to replace all the break lines, gas lines and probably breaks and bearings.
Posted By: draggnastro Re: Looking at a couple vans. - June 27th 2012 9:06 pm
This is true, thinking maybe going with a newer van.

yeahbut it does like good and has the perfect amount of windows.

setting for ten years .....In that spot or the warehouse behind it?
Setting can be just as hard on a van as driving them.
where they actually set can make a huge difference.
The 351 Windsor is actually a great Ford engine.
We had a 76 ford van in our family (my dads) that went well over 300,000 miles. The body went but that engine purred like a kitten.
No windows is a huge bonus.....

At 500.00 you got to chose your battles.

The underside of it looked fairly solid actually. Ive just been getting more into the silver Ford and realizing just how bad some of the rust is on it. Im going to think on it for awhile, and see what happens. I would like that white ford, but i'd have to investigate it a little further before i buy it.

Did you hear the white one run yet?

The body alone is worth 500.00.
Hard to find an old solid one no body has hacked windows into.

Hey Chris, how about something heavy duty??

If ya buy this it'll save me from wanting it. I've always had a weakness for work vans.

$500 bucks and perfect window count...looks to good to pass up... smile

$500...Looks like a GREAT deal. Mine sat for 10 years and had minimal rust....and even though the engine was "locked" I got it running with minimal effort and the only thing it needs is new valve seals so just because it has been sitting doesn't always mean it will be a disaster.

Glad I'm not in your area that the price range i buy them in. If they don't run its easy on the older to make run. My best running van was 100 dollar 1972 ford van a man was going junk. Good luck u think so one will get it.

Not bad Catfish. Ok, so general consensus has it to buy the older solid van. Ok. Just gotta get the other two sold now.

Are you just looking at it ? Or are you really Looking at it ? lol
Posted By: draggnastro Re: Looking at a couple vans. - June 28th 2012 5:10 pm
Im considering it seriously. The Silver Ford is just too far gone.
Posted By: draggnastro Re: Looking at a couple vans. - June 28th 2012 8:01 pm
Welp, may have both vans sold in the next couple days!
Posted By: wookee Re: Looking at a couple vans. - June 29th 2012 2:52 am
The good thing about the white Ford is IF it does RUN it is easier to keep them running or even rebuilding it IF it has a drive line you want.......

I made my decision. Im going with the 99 cargo. Sure its got winders in the doors, but the paint is in nice shape, rust isnt too bad, newer drivetrain and it has a known history and maintenance records. 900 bucks is a good deal i feel. Im going to save what i want out of the old Ford, namely the seats, and send the rest off. The Dodge is being picked up by a guy very interested in vans and vanning, hopefully make a new club member out of him one day!? Plus the 99 has the 4.2 V6, should be very easy on gas. Well, i'll post pics when i have something to post pics of!
