My 1985 Dodge Ram B250 blew the #6 fuse(the one for brake lights, overhead lights, lighter, ect).I tried putting new 25 amp ones in it,but it keeps blowing them as soon as I put it in.I think that there may be a short in the headlight switch(I do not know if this is the problem).I had noticed for a couple weeks now that sometimes when I manually turned on the interior light it seemed to flicker and all the dash lights got dim(more than usual).I did leave the interior lights on by accident for 2 hours today before this happened.

I am trying to find any help.I am not very experienced with electrical problems(but can learn fast). What would you suggest I do first?

The fuse blows when you put a new one in even with the lights off? That's not good. If you think it's the headlight switch, I'd pull the switch out and disconnect the wires going to it, then put a new fuse in. If it doesn't blow right away like the others did, you've found the problem. If it still blows, you've isolated everything up to the switch, so you're probably loking for a shorted wire between the fuse block and headlight switch. Your dash comes off failry easily, and it's pretty easy to chase wires under there.

I disconnected the wires going to headlight switch, tried a new fuse and it burned out.I pulled the dash apart and traced the wires the best I could from the fuseable link all looked good.I will probably bring it to my Van Doctor(mechanic)tomorrow I dont want to play around to much since I am not sure what I am doing. At least right now my other lights are still working and it still starts.
thanks for the help

OK THEN CHECK THE PRONGS WHERE THE FUSE PUSHES INTO IF IT HAS RUST ON THE PLONGS FROM ANY MOISTURE THIS WOULD BLOW THE FUSES OUT..?? ALSO IS THE FUSE BOX TIGHTENED DOWN IF NOT TRY THAT . ALSO IS THERE ANY AFTERMARKET LIGHTS/OR RADIO OR ANY THING ELSE ON THAT FUSE??? IFSO REMOVE THEM. ALSO TRY, UNSCREW THE FUSE BOX BE CAREFULL TO KEEP THE WIRES PLUGED IN THE PRONGS. IF ONE FALLS OUT JUST PUSH IT BACK ON BUT FEEL THE WIRES FOR A SOFT SPOT OR AREAL HARD SPOT IN THE WIRE.OR A DARKENED SPOT IF YOU FIND ONE THAT IS YOUR PROBLEM.GOOD LUCK DIX...

OK AFTER RE-READING YOUR 1ST POST TRY GETTING THE LIGHTER UNPLUGED AT THE BACK OF THE LIGHTER. BUT THIS WIRE IS STILL HOT .DON`T LET IT TOUCH METAL ON THE DASH IT WILL BLOW THE FUSE RIGHT AWAY, YOUR LIGHTER MAY BE BAD AND GROUNDED OUT... ALSO TRY TO LOOK AT THECONNECTION AT THE OVER HEAD LIGHTS THAT MAY NOT HAVE BEEN WATER TIGHT AND STARTED TO CORRODE. THOSE PLASTIC WIRE CRIMP/ SPLICE SUCK KEEP TRYING . DIX....
