It's cold outside my sleeping bag in the morning, and I figure some of our northcountry vanners find it chilly quite a while. What do you use, portable propane, installed gas/diesel units, an electric? | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 1,690 veteran | veteran Joined: Feb 2009 Posts: 1,690 | one reason im getting a diesel van is so when im out and about traveling i can keep the thing running night long.
if ur talking evants... portable heater. propane ones work... but ud have to leave a window good sized cracked. | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 | Arianrhod:2003 Chevy Astro Black Magic: 1985 Dodge B-250 Serenity:1985 Chevy G-20 The Outcast:1983 Ford club wagon Luna 1974 VW bay window transporter Freedom:1990 Ford E-150(parts van) Outcast Vanners van club Support your local 2% | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 pooh-bah | pooh-bah Joined: Oct 2002 Posts: 3,601 Likes: 10 | | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 2,847 Likes: 42 veteran | veteran Joined: Apr 2010 Posts: 2,847 Likes: 42 | Link works for me. But here is another product similar to the Mr Buddy heater: http://www.amazon.com/Coleman-PerfecTemp-Catalytic-InstaStart-Technology/dp/B0009PUQW8I've never used propane for heating inside my van, only cooking. Them cold mornings I keep my Espresso maker so I can reach it and the single burner portable stove from bed. In the 3 minutes it takes to brew, I wriggle into my clothes while under the many blankets. I gave up on sleeping bags long time ago for comfort reasons. Sleeping bags are for tents, IMO. | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2005 Posts: 21,211 Likes: 25 | I bought a ceramic heater at Wal-Mart. Keeps my van(s) toasty. I used it this past weekend.

Seriously though, if you have a window van some curtains would help, as would a thicker sleeping bag. I would recommend a second deep cycle battery and a small ceramic heater. That way you can charge the battery with a solar panel all day and then stay warm at night.
Windows- they're what make a van worth owning! | | | Re: How to...heat? | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 Supreme Master | Supreme Master Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 18,535 Likes: 135 | Like Reed said.Body heat works well Arianrhod:2003 Chevy Astro Black Magic: 1985 Dodge B-250 Serenity:1985 Chevy G-20 The Outcast:1983 Ford club wagon Luna 1974 VW bay window transporter Freedom:1990 Ford E-150(parts van) Outcast Vanners van club Support your local 2% | | |
