I wanna know how the gas gauge works in your van - gallons to gauge reading. Don't post if your gauge is inoperable.

I recently got mine working (finally a van with a functional gas gauge after years!), and when I put in around 4 gallons, it registered 1/4 already. Filling another 5 gal nets me slightly below half. I have the 22 gallon steel tank.

Is this within range for everyone else? I tested the ohms on the sending unit, the ohms are spot on.

Haven't driven around yet, I'm trying to get a feel so when I know to fill or not.

Sounds about rite. I fill mine at 1/4.

i have a '75 Dodge and that sounds about right to me. i have switched out gas gauges before and noticed that while full it didn't quite reach full mark and other ones going passed the full mark when full. i don't think gauges are totally accurate, thats just my opinion. it drives me nuts when someone refills their tank at halfway and assumes they put in 11 gallons (if its a 22 galloner) to do their fuel mileage. totally inaccurate.

Cool.

No, they are not...and they are slow to give readings due to the limitations of the rheostat system. During testing, it would only go to 3/4 immediately then slowly go to full mark. Faster if I tap the cluster. We'll see when I fill it up again.

I'm not doing fuel economy. I'm figuring out gallons of gas to gauge readings.

my van is the same way on filling up. mine goes just a little passed the 3/4 mark then slowly gets to the full mark.

I swapped out a 22 gal fuel tank for a 35 gal in my 77 and kept the same sender. Now, at full, it only registers 7/8 of a tank.
