CD Player line in?

Hello, I have a new question.
When we had a tape deck in the van (96 Dodge Ram), we could hook up a CD player to the stereo using a tape deck adapter. However, the tape deck broke, so we installed a CD player from a Neon. Now, I just got a Creative Zen Micro mp3 player, and I want to play the music in the van. Is there any way I can create a plug to sort of tap into the sound, or is there a kit, or do I have to buy one of those low-power FM broadcasters

There are a few ways to do it. Some better than others. If the factory radio you have has CD Changer controls on it you can buy a adapter from Crutchfield to hook it up.

If you don't have the changer controls you could use an FM transmitter but those aren't the best in my opinion. You get interference from actual radio stations.

In my van I put in an AIWA stereo that has a mini plug input on the front. That is cheaper than buying the changer input converter thing and a good way to go. In my daily driver I have an Alpine system with an adapter for my ipod. A lot of companies are making aftermarket radios with Ipod compatibility now. But I think the Aiwa would be the best for your situation. Mine was less than $100 bucks.

How would I know if the factory radio (Pulled from a 1999 Dodge Neon) has CD changer controls? And what would this adapter look like

Well, some rich kid in New Zealand is giving me money for my birthday, so I can probably buy a simple CD player from Aiwa

I kinda doubt the neon radio has the controls. Crutchfield may be able to tell you what fits your car. Here is a link to some of the things I was talking about. They are a good company to buy from.

Sorry, none of the items in iPod & Portable to Factory Radio works with your factory stereo.

Checked both on my van and on the neon

hmm, he is right about the input on the stereo. most of the time you will need something from a premium sound system to get the aux control. buying a base model sony might also be an option they actually look pretty decent and for 100 bucks it has the front input and a remote as well. not bad for a sony. definaly something to look into. you will get much better sound in the long run and more volume as well. good luck.

While I'm sure others on this forum wouldn't consider it a viable option, you may be able to score a good sound system for your 96 Ram from a junkyard. I have a junkyard unit (shown below) in my van that only cost $12.50 It is at least 10 years old but still works great and does have CD changer controls. Alpine still sells a 6-disk changer & remote control that work with this tuner too. [Big Grin] -
