Okay what I'm told is that the flexplate bolts hold the spacer as well as the flexplate to the crank. So it sounds as if it's seized. You can tell him to try a little heat, but to focus the heat on the spacer only since that's what needs to be expanded. Too much heat and you risk frying the rear main seal and possibly damaging the bearings due to heat transfer.

PS. When I say heat, I don't mean propane, I'm talkin' Oxy-Acetelene...don't think propane would get hot enough.

Thanks Nate! I figured it was somerthing like that. I will see if this guy is willing to heat it and whack it with a sledge.

Okay, get this- I have traded e-mails with this guy and it sounds like he was using a gear puller to try and pull the crank flange off of the crank. The spacer has been sitting on a shelf in his shed for several months but he didn't know what it was. Sigh. [Roll Eyes] [ December 02, 2005, 06:56 PM: Message edited by: Reed ]

Oh my God...that is without a doubt the funniest thing I've ever read. LOL!

Oh well..hopefully he didn't screw the crank up.
