I still like to change oil every 3000 or so miles so synthetic does get expensive. The intake hoses for the intercooler are about 3 inches in diameter so that should give you a feel for the volume of air it is cooling. You might try here for more specific help. Mounted two late model Tarus two speed fans in their place behind a older model 4-pass big block rad. I cut the mounting tabs off and stood the fans on end and made a mounting frame. Had to upgrade the alternator to a 130 amp 3G and add a second battery. Also installed two 10" pusher fans from Aspires for extra air flow to the A/C condenser when I'm sitting still. I spaced the grille out about a inch and everything clears. Finding room for power distribution, fuses and relays has been a headache. If I had to mount an intercooler???? Runs cool inside and out. I've never used high speed on the fans even in 95 plus temps. Could a smaller liquid cooled intercooler (water to air heat exchanger) be used in a setup with a diesel? Good question?
Here are my thoughts, Not an expert! Air cools faster than water. Wate needs to be cooled before it can cool the air. Average temp of water in an engine 185 degrees. Air coming into Rad usually under 100 degrees.
Also to do this you would need a box to run a (water) coil or mini-rad into to be able to blow the turbo air across.

A separate liquid cooler would be smaller and could use an electric pump. But then any exchanger for the air would slow the air flow and defeat the purpose. What about the propane injection I've read about? Would that help Starlords 6.0? Expensive I'd guess! Or maybe water injection? I wonder what those big John Deere combines use for boost. I saw a hot rod diesel do it's thing not to long ago. I still don't really understand the water injection thing. I have a setup that someone gave me years ago to use on my racecar, but never installed it, cause it doesn't make sense to me.
I know a guy with a Dodge pickup. He added a comp. chip, a big exhaust, and one of those 'Air Flow' air cleaners and got 500 Horses at the rear tires. He had it Dyno'd and printed out the results, cause he didn't think anyone would believe it.
I know all the Mustang and Camaro's believe it when he blows them away tho!

He said a dealership may not do this for u unless u know the tech, but u could by the programer. I don't think I am going to go that route on mine because I can't find the time or motivation. Moving towards retirement next year and selling the house will only make matters worse.
Having decided that, I have a brand new - still in the box Banks Engineering Intercooler with all hookups for the 7.3. This should be a bolt on for FORD Excursions or pickups. Vans would need to change the intakes over to pickup style to make it work.
Anyone interested? I'd like $250 for the complete kit. | | |
