Those spindles should have never been powder coated. Powder coating will add size to metal and block up threaded holes.Enough size to make it hard to drive the new races onto the spindles.

They had to remove the powder coating from the spindles. [ April 05, 2006, 02:00 PM: Message edited by: Vanishing Breed ] | | | Re: New pics of powder coated (candy apple red) front axle and tie rod #84109 April 01st 2006 1:13 am | Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 637 old hand | old hand Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 637 | I masked mine before sending them to Powder coat, it saved me hours of cleaning. I forgot one thread on the control arm and the powder was so thick the threads were not even visible. It cleans off so nice though, it was sooo worth it. | | | Re: New pics of powder coated (candy apple red) front axle and tie rod #84110 March 31st 2006 3:27 pm | Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 643 International Vanner to the Bone | International Vanner to the Bone Joined: Jul 2004 Posts: 643 | Hey Mike!

I'm building a scooter for a dude and used the candy red as well. That shit is bad ass. It has a mile of depth. Maybe I'm nuts but it doesn't seem as tough as good 'ol black. No matter how careful you are or how much tape you use to cover the new finish it seems ya always drop a wrench or something. It knicked easier.
Looking good man. I'd love to see this rig in person sometime. | | | Re: New pics of powder coated (candy apple red) front axle and tie rod #84112 March 31st 2006 7:25 pm | Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,471 Old fossilized vanner | OP Old fossilized vanner Joined: Jan 2005 Posts: 1,471 | My wife and I are hoping to make it to the Nats this year with the van. It all depends on if she can get the time off. She used up most of her vacation time when we went to Hawaii so we have to wait and see. | | |
